not interlocking fingers

i just got back from the range and decided to see how it felt to not interlock my fingers, so i hit a few and i noticed it felt a lot smoother and felt better, so i wanna kno if anyone else dosnt interlock there fingers and if there any advantages or disadvantages

I assume you're talking about a Vardon grip where as instead of interlocking your fingers, you simply overlap them. It's a very traditional, and popular grip.

I started playing golf as an interlocker. At the end of last season I switched to the Vardon style, and I noticed immediately that I was able to lag the club some more, and that I could control my release a little better. It also is a lot more like my putting stroke, which somehow got my putting more consistent.

This is what happened to me as well..

I just recently switched from interlock to overlap. My right pinky doesn't hurt after rounds anymore and I feel like my right hand is not likely to overpower my left and cause a snap hook. I've been able to hit the ball much straighter and shape it both ways where before I was having trouble shaping the ball left to right.

The main benefit for me has been a quieter right hand through the swing.

I dont know if that's just me or if it's a normal occurrence.

See I've been playing interlock for 6 years as long as I've played and I was talking about the baseball but I may give the overlap a try thanks for the input

it was uncomfortable for the first half bucket or so, but I was mostly hitting the ball very solidly. Give it a chance if it is uncomfortable at first, any change takes some getting used to.

I always have (and probably always will) play the 10 finger grip. It just feels more natural to me because I played really competive baseball before beginning golf. I guess its just me, but the interlock and overlap seem really awkward...

I play the baseball grip and love it. I think it is better for moving the ball. I also can hit the ball low or high and never have an issue overgripping the club

Played pro baseball for a while so thats what felt comfortable to me. Now that I am a teaching pro I swing with a baseball grip and play that way. I have short fat fingers so thats what feels the best. But I teach whatever the person is comfortable with. Just have to have the club corectly in your hands thats all

I switched to overlapping about a year ago. It was an easy change coming from the interlock grip. The interlock was beginning to kill my pinkie finger. I hated sounding like a wuss, but the pain was pretty bad and actually started affecting my play.

One disadvantage I see with the overlap is that I find myself migrating my hands at times, either to nearly a double-overlap (when chipping, for example), or to darn near a baseball grip (when hitting a draw.) The inconsistency creeps up on me. With the interlock that can't happen.
