Tad Moore Handmades!

Proto stages LOTS of pics!
I just received some pics of some Tad Moore handmade putter heads that were sent to LaMont of Mannkrafted in AZ for some finish work. Some of these handmades are really cool looking IMHO. Lots of crazy hand bent necks and some cool stamping, too.

I'm very excited to see what LaMont does with them finish-wise. I know there will be some nickel plate, gun blue, possibly some TBO, and I'm hoping LaMont does some torch or his rubbed bronze finish which is just spectacular.

Well, enjoy the :kewlpics: and I'm looking forward to the finished product!!!

I love all of Tad's work and they are still the softest most solid feeling I have ever putted with. my only complaint is the head weight, they are just a bit light for me. My putting has improved over the past few years and I attribute it to going heavier, it just seems to smooth out my stroke.

oneaugusta,

Tad doesn't make very many putters above 340 grams. He can make them heavier if requested. He told me once that look at some of the best putters over history and their headweights were between 320-330 grams... food for thought

I'm not trying to be arumentitive but the great putters of the past putted on much slower greens than the one we have today, there putters were lighter and had more loft. I believe today's great putters Faxon, Gay, Mickelson etc use putters over 340 gram with much less loft. I think Tad is a wonderful craftsman and a very personable guy, I ad all my responces with the upmost respect.

I love the 8802.... I was actually bidding on one that was refinished by Lamont on ebay a while back. I don't think it ever got up to the reserve though.

I'm a big fan of lighter (310-330) putters. I use a 330 gram mizuno bc7 w/ 4* of loft right now, even my wilson 8802 (not original) sometimes on slower greens. It's lighter than the mizuno but a lot firmer for a bit more punch on the ball. Kind of counter intuitive, but it works. That face is hard.

I will only add that Phil's putters have historically run in the 6-10* of loft range, due to his extreme forward press. I had a Bobby Grace handmade for Phil that was almost a chipper, loft-wise. It now rests with a fellow WRX-er and I believe it is seeing time in his bag.
As for weight, my personal experience with tour requests is that a TON of guys making a living with their clubs do not go over 340 grams. The propaganda that shows a 350 gram putter as "TOUR WEIGHT" is just that, propaganda...........alright, maybe "marketing" is a better term.
Just an opinion and I agree with every person's right to have theirs.
All good here.
Thx,
LaMont in AZ

True with Faxon and Gay but Mickelson?!?!? He's about as consistent with the putter as he is with the driver LOL

How about Tiger? I swear I read somewhere his putters around 325 grams... true?

I guess your right on Phil but I think his stroke is one of the best, maybe he just tinkers to much with it and overthinks. As far as Tiger goes I have heard 330+ and he has a long peice of lead tape along the bottom which is completly visible in many pictures.

Augusta,
I know that putter, from pix a long time ago. I'll agree that it was a beauty.
There is a TM-6 model from Maxfli that is very, very close to that head shape. They are not easy to find, but if you do, I think that you'll agree.
Tad's new handmade stuff is simply stunning, in person. Some of the ones pictured above were done in a high gloss black/blue finish and are heading for paint fill. The rest of them will be getting a new finish done locally in Phoenix. It is a Nickel blend finish that is incredibly durable and has already proven itself on at least one OEM's putter line.
Thanks,
LaMont in AZ
