I've been playing for just over a year now and it took me forever to consistently break 100, just about the whole year, but now I'm scoring in the mid to low 80s everytime out with ease. breaking 90 took no time at all once I starting breaking 100 which was alot of hard work. I play 18 about once a week and I hit the range at least 6 times a week. I'd say my first step was learning how to strike the ball on the club consistently, then working out ball flight patterns etc. then came learning my woods. I now hit my driver 250-270 yards consistently, but breaking 90 came once I learned to chip and putt. Now I spend a chunk of my time practicing creative type shots around the green. I really enjoy practicing. Nothing better than a bucket of balls and a nice grass range.

I played my first round on the 5th of July 2003 and broke 100 on 17th of August. So it was only 43 days. Then I broke 90 on the 6th of March 2004 with and 88. That one took 157 days days. Then I broke 80 this year on the 30th of March this year :vava: That one took 1 year and 27 days :D :cheesy: WAY too long. Now I have to have my first round of 72, I was hoping to do it this year but it looks like I wont.

It took me 2 rounds to break 100, another 2 to break 90, and about a year to break 80. I did spend a lot of time on the range and on pitch & putt/executive courses before taking on a proper course. Still looking for that par/sub-par round though...

It took two years and lessons from an LPGA teaching pro to break 100. It took about 3 months of TGM study to break 90. I understand the golf swing(s) so much more thanks to Homer Kelly's little yellow book. Not a teaching method, so much as a catalog of swing components. Next up is lessons with a TGM A.I. Will post at the end of the summer with my progress.

I broke 90 first time out, 80 was not far behind, I first broke par gross when playing off a 10 handicap and turned pro 2 and half years after first swinging the club.

The secret to my succes was that I was ill at the time and could not manage to play that often, as such I practiced the short game a lot and spent a lot of time setting up as Icould not manage that many consequtive swings.

The short game is definitely the way to go. I'm doing the same thing right now due to lack of time to play much. Wish I had had the patience to do it a few years ago when I took up the game again.

I'd been hitting balls on some waste ground near where I lived for a while, so breaking 100 wasn't such a big deal as I could hit the ball fairly decently, and just needed some fine tuning on the short game. I was never afflicted by a slice as I was a decent junior tennis player before I took up golf and thus saw the swing as a forehand ground stroke which hit it with a draw flight. I would guess that it took me around eight rounds to break 100, which would've been around 6-8 weeks.

Breaking 90 was a matter of hitting the ball better and sharpening up my short game. I reckon I was doing it consistently within, say, 6 months.

Breaking 80? Dunno. I was off 2 after about 2 1/2 years of golf, and I would guess I was consistently breaking 80 after 18 months?

I would say that, when the golf bug bit, it really bit, and I was big on practice and competitive play with friends who were good players, so that helped.

All the above might be wrong to some degree as it was 20 years ago and my memory is shot...

its been a while since i thought about it.

1st year i played took me the whole summer to break 100 consistantly

2nd year took me all summer to break 90

3rd year consitantly broke 90s

4th year consistanly shot in the mid to low 80's with ocasional high 70 rounds

5th year consistanly shot high to mid 70's

6th year occational under par rounds

7th year quit golf as my dreams for the PGA felt out of reach.

10 years later to 2005

Here i am back playing competative golf struggling to consistanly shoot 70's, with a rekindle love of the game and burning desire to try my dreams in a much more dificult situation then before.

I started playing golf when I was 14. I was shooting in the 70's within about 6 months. It took me 4 more years to shoot in the 60's.

I started playing golf at age 11 and broke 75 when I was 13 on a golf course that by todays standards would be considered very easy (6,200 yards). The equipment I had was pretty good at that time, but would be considered obsolete now.

i actually broke 80 yesterday. shot 79. ut i had to double bogies and a couple missed birdie chances. so it could have been lower. and the two doubles were aresult of bad tee shots. everytime i play i expect myself to break 80. but it was the first time i did. soi was happy. but now i just have to keep that going, lol
