What clubs are Made in America Anymore?

meades

Recommended Posts

Over the past year my wife and I have purchased two new sets of clubs. She got the Adams A7OS and I got the some Clevelands CG7's. Noticed that both had stickers on them saying "Made in China". If I wanted to support both American Based Companies and their American Made golf products which do I have to choose from anymore?

Lots of clubs are assembled in the US from American, Japanese, and Chinese components. Even most grip manucturing plants are out of the USA.

Aside from some putter manufacturers, Louisville Golf may be the only clubhead manufacturer still in the USA at this point. Even most of the Ping heads are outsourced internationally.

Why is this relevant in the scheme of golf? Are you looking for high quality products? Because made in the USA can still be some Crappy golf equipment. but Mizuno and Scratch seems to be making great products even though it's not made in the US.

He didn't say it was relevant to golf. He specifically said he wanted to support North American companies.

The best golf components are made in Japan. They have far better raw components, process and far better quality.

from what I've seen from labels on golf equipment, a lot of things are assembled in one country, all materials are manufactured in another. It's gonna be difficult to find a complete set assembled and all material produced in the USA.

Testing: Sim2 8*, Rogue ST TD 9*

Taylormade P790 UDI 2

Ping iCrossover - 3 iron

Callaway Paradym 4-AW Modus 115x

Mizuno T22 50* Blue Ion Modus 115x

Mizuno T22 56 Denim Copper TI S400

Mizuno MCraft Type VI

Beat me to it. While quality is an important factor, I just wanted to spend the most of my $$$ to support American jobs. I know a ton of stuff is assembled in the States. I do not even what to start thinking about all the supporting equipment like balls, gloves, shoes & clothes... can of worms I have opened. Sorry.

Thanks to the EPA, anything that's titanium is made in Japan or China. TM, Nike, Cally, Adams, etc. are all made China with some things assembled here. Hell, I heard that Ping is now casting all their clubs in China.

The only US made clubs I know of are milled putters by SC, Bettinardi, Machine, etc.

Ping G430 Max 3 and 7 Woods, 16.5* and 21.0*, Alta CB Black 65R

I thought that ping out-sourced the irons with multi-materials [rapture, s-57, i15] and the g15's were the only current line still made in the US foundry.
[/quote]

All Ping Irons and Woods are now manufactured in Asia - including the G15's! Ping has pretty much eliminated golf club production at the foundry, but still does contract manufacturing for some other industries.

Basically, other than some of the milled putter heads, there aren't any metal heads still being made in the states. Even the cast putter heads are pretty much made overseas. Ping was the last hold-out, but they had to join the party to continue to make a price competitive product.

Our 1018 wedges are made in Japan and assembled in the USA. Our 8620 wedges are made in China and assembled in the USA. Our Tour Custom Department clubs are mostly made in the USA. We get extremely raw forgings from Japan and then we do all the rest of the manufacturing here in Chattanooga. Our putters are 100% made in the USA. We are in talks with a foundry in the USA about forging our clubs here as we are trying to bring as much of our manufacturing back to the USA as possible.

Even the putter manufacturers with American heads and American True Temper shafts are either using rubber grips (usually Mexico) or Gripmaster Leather (Australia).

Even at that point, some American putter manufacturers are proud of their GERMAN stainless steel...

All clubmakers have their forging and casting done outside of the USA nowdays. The emission regs have pretty much put an end to casting/forging in this country.
Lots of clubmakers ASSEMBLE their clubs in the USA, but you arent really going to find any that still have the casting/forging done here.
I know that in the case of Mizuno, the forged clubheads are made in Japan, the cast clubheads and made in China; but they are assembled in the USA.

Awesome! Let us know when/if you are able. I hope that by the time it happens I'll be in the market for a new set. The wife only bites every 3 or 4 years and supporting US jobs gives me some good ammunition. biggrin.gif

Clubheads are the only hard part, everything else you need is easy to find 'Made in the US'.

True Temper and Rifle steel shafts are made in Mississippi. Harrison and Penley graphite shafts were/are made in California. Grandt (fishing) Rods make graphite shafts here (http://www.grandtrods.com/grandtrods_golf.htm). Acushnet ( Titleist, Pinnacle ) balls are made in Massachusetts. I think Top-Flites are domestic, too. Golf Pride stopped making grips here, but Star, Tacki-mac, and Mint all make grips in the US. Some Avons and Kelmacs, too.

There are even some clubheads still made here. Ping, as mentioned. Cornell Forge (http://cornellforge.com/) makes heads for someone, but I've yet to find out who. Prairie Golf (http://www.prairiegolf.com/). Lots of putter heads.

As for why it matters, well, we can't all be landscapers. Someone has to actually make something here, or the long-term future is bleak.

Wow, great thread, can't believe I didn't notice it until I completed writing my articles about USA made equipment. I will add in everything I see here on to my list. If anyone has more to add for American made equipment please post it. I'm trying to make a full list.

Pretty sure they are made in USA, at least the putters have a sticker of the flag.

:derisive:

I'm pretty sure Chinese factories can locally source USA flag stickers with no problem. And in fact, if I were a USA company producing products in China I'd seriously consider spec'ing them out with a USA flag decoration. It can't hurt.

Aldila tour issue makes some stuff in Poway, CA. I've been to the facility. A lot of companies to prototyping in house in USA. But mass production goes overseas.
