Best Camera to record Swings

A big consideration for the OP was the requirement of good indoor filming.Although the Casio's are great, there is the new Canon powershot SD4000 IS.This camera only has 240 fps(320x240) but it has a super bright F2.0 aperture lens so it should film better indoors. This compact camera was designed for low light shooting.

If indoor shooting is not a big requirement I would go with the Casio's as they have more high speed modes.

Yes...my FH20 needs a lot of light for indoor HS video. Dont go with it if you are planning to shoot indoor videos unless it is very well lighted.

Yeah it's pretty hard to film HS indoors.Just to give people an idea, you need 1300w of lighting per square meter to achieve the same outdoor sunlight conditions. That's quite a few halogen lamps you will need.

Cool camera. When I see request a quote/price I know I can't afford. That Casio is looking really good right now!
Yeah,I guess what I'm trying to say is don't expect too much for a few hundred bucks.LOL

I don't know of any camera under a thousand dollars that can do do HS HD video. That Phantom camera probably cost 20K+ but I'm sure there's someone here who could probably afford it.

I have a Sony Handycam that shoots at 240 fps, however, the picture isn't that great and I need to have the camera about 25 feet away to get a decent picture. Does the Casio EX-FH100 allow shots as close as this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPPxXSdESIc&playnext_from=TL&videos=hegI35JjFF8 I don't like having someone have to shoot my swing so far away to get my swing in the picture and decent picture quality.

The Sanyo Dual Camcorders ( VPC-FH1BK Full 1080p HD Video and 8MP Digital Photos, VPC-HD2000ABK Full 1080p HD Video and 8MP Digital, VPC-SH1BK Full HD 1080 Video and 10MP Digital Photos) all have "slow motion" video playback function, up to 600fps. Looks like pricing ranges from $325-$550. Ebay may be cheaper. Here's a link showing golf swing with an older Sanyo model @ 300fps

Is a 8 g card typically enough storage space for average use?
Yes, unless you do A LOT of video. Class 6 cards are fast enough.

A couple of other nice things about the FH-100 is the HDMI connector for playback on HDTV and the HD videos are recorded with stereo audio.

I find that I prefer to offload my raw video and edit on PC. I keep my videos to one swing per to keep the filesize smaller.
Doing some quick calculations, it looks like a

1 minute video at 1280x720@30fps would be 197.75MB
1 minute video at 224x64@1000fps would be 102.54MB
1 minute video at 224x168@420fps would be 113.05MB
1 minute video at 448x336@240fps would be 258.40MB
1 minute video at 640x480@120fps would be 263.67MB

I plan on doing most of my recording at 240fps, so 258.40MB per minute, going onto a 16GB card, I'll be looking at approximately an hour of recording time on the card before having to bring it home to edit.
Be forewarned that the largest the file can get on the Casio is 4GB due to how the card is formatted. I have read in the other casio thread that the largest continuous slo mo capture period is around 14 minutes.

If I do this 11,548 more times, I will be having fun. - Zippy the Pinhead

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I've been eying the FS10 for a while and this is a good deal. This seems to be a perfect cheap option for slow mo golf swing video capture. I have an SLR for actual picture taking and a HD camcorder for video, but like the previous poster mentioned, you have to get a mile away to get the right angle. Took a lesson the other day and the teacher was actually using the FS10 for quick video review. He was a big fan.
