If there was a "-1" button, I would've used it many times in this thread. It's very obvious that many of the posters have never owned, run, or even thought very hard about a business. Yikes.

Instead of sitting there and passing judgment how about you explain your point.

I think people use the V1 because it is proven, and familiar. A lot of people do not want to experiment and risk wasting a lot of money on another tour ball they might not like as well. I think you should try and get the Pentas, 330 i(z) etc. in the hands of your customers. Give away some sleeves, sell at cost, whatever you come up with. That way, your customers can see that the other ball you want to sell is a good choice for them.

For example, I bought a sample pack of balls to determine what type of ball I want to play the rest of the year. For me, the One Tour D, Z Star X and the V1x all performed pretty similarly. I went with the Nike ball because it is cheaper and I did not see a big difference in performance. I never would have thought to use that ball until I got to use it. And then I found out it was a great ball for me.

So I switched balls because I got to experiment with a bunch of different balls and see what I liked best. I think using that approach could get a lot of people to switch. Especially if the other balls were a little cheaper than the V1s/

Don't do it
Consumer perception is Titleist is the number 1 ball in golf as most tour players use it
If you don't carry the most popular ball on tour then you may lose some consumers

Do an analysis for 3 months, see what % of your the balls purchased are Titleist

That perception can be changed. Marketing is whats currently selling Titleist golf balls, its definately not because they are a better ball. IMO I say do what you can to make money. Thats the bottom line. We have the same issue, we carry Titleist only because we have 5 courses that purchase from them and it gives us a better deal, but the wholesale cost on Titleist products is just stupid. Especially balls.

I know I have played 2 balls in the last year that I think are considerably better than Titleist all around. SELL your consumers on another brand, thats what you need to be doing. I tell every customer \that comes in looking for a ProV1 about the Zstar and TP RED, 90% of the time I sell them on one or the other. and 80% of the time they come in after their round and mention how much they liked the ball they purchased. Titleist relies on being a marketing giant! If they are not readily available and people are switching to other balls, it may drive their cost down, or at the least cause them to produce a new product that can compete with Srixon, bc in my 250+ rounds of golf a year I can tell you I feel that Titleist makes an inferior product in the golf ball market, and brilliant marketing is what sells that inferior product. Remember Chevy? They used to be "ole reliable" and one of the most sought after cars on the market, well their marketing has not been able to keep them afloat and the quality of their product has shown through. It will happen sooner or later with Titleist. GAURANTEED! Especially as more and more shops/courses drop their products. At the least us dropping their balls will cause them to re think their wholesale pricing strategy. bc as it stands now its almost like we should feel priveledged to be allowed to sell their products, without making money.

#1 Srixon Z Star or ZstarX(currently playing) These balls are better IMO for a couple of reasons, preformance and durability.
#2 Taylormade TP RED Only better in the preformance aspect, still has durability.

I wouldn't drop the line entirely but keep them in-stock at the barest minimum you can justify financially. You gotta keep people in the store shopping and if they can't get what they want, you will lose out on secondary/impulse buys that are making you money. Gear your store, your displays, and your staff into selling what keeps the store running.

Gas stations, talking only about the stations here, do not make much on the gas they sell..its the drinks, food and other items in the store that makes the money.
