I think I am going to have to use some of my store credit at my local shop for some of these...

Which one has less spin on the short iron shots?

I know the Prov-X has more spin on say a 9 iron shot that the reg pro-V
[/quote]
the Z-star x has less spin on irons and is slightly harder in feel

edit: after reading the other treads, maybe i am wrong. whoops! well, take my thoughts as a personal review then ;)

Ok thanks, I am confused on this as well. I like the Pro-V and the X but found for our greens the spin was too unpredictable and high on those short iron shots. Thats what made me move to the tp-red which I love.... But since those are gone now I should start looking at a new ball for when I run out...

I played two rounds with the Z Star this weekend. It is a long ball, spin is acceptable and very durable. After 18 holes, I threw the ball in my bag. When I reached into it the next day, I pulled the "used" Z Star and a new one and couldn't tell which one had been played for 18 holes the previous day. It doesn't spin on chips and pitches like a Pro V or Penta but does so on full shots. IMHO, I think the Penta is the best all around ball, followed by the Pro V and Z Star.

Just played a full round and was going to post the exact same comment. 18 holes, including several desert shots, and the ball is ready to go on the #1 tee next round. Outstanding durability.

I played two rounds with the Yellow Z Star this weekend. It's the first time I've used a ball other than the TP Red in about a year. I bought it because I had heard it spun a lot around the greens and that's what I want out of a ball.

Distance: Seemed slightly shorter than the TP Red, but no big deal. It's still long enough to keep around.

Feel: It's definitely soft, but not too mushy.

Spin: Spins well, but not quite as much as I expected. Bunker shots didn't seem to spin as much as the TP Red. I do like the feel on chip shots, though. Not too soft, not too firm.

In Wind: The first round I used it was very windy with gusts up to 30-40 mph. It certainly doesn't cut through the wind like the TP Red, but I suppose not too many balls do. On holes into the wind, I was being out-driven by guys I usually drive it 20-30 yards by. My ball just didn't cut through the air like theirs did.

And yes, I definitely like the yellow color. It can definitely be seen from further away in grass, easier to track through the air, and easier to find in the desert. No comments from anyone in the peanut gallery, either, for those of you who are self-conscious.

All in all, I liked it but I'm not opposed to keep trying new balls.

I played the Z-Star Tour Yellow for the first time this week after having played the Z-URS and the white Z-Star almost exclusively for the past two seasons. I had tried V1, Nike One Black and Platinum, Callaway Tour IX and Bridgestone 330S along with non-premium balls (NXT Tour, AD-333, E5 and E6) before, but the Z-URS and the white Z-Star simply performed best for me.
I think the Tour Yellow is different from those two. It is longer and spins less with every club. It is really hot and it feels like the initial velocity off the clubface is higher with the Tour Yellow. That's also true for putting. It starts very fast, but then slows down earlier than the white Z-Star. This can be a problem on slow, grainy greens. The overall performance reminds me a lot of the Callaway Tour IX, which I liked the most behind the two Srixon balls I played.
But it certainly is perfect on courses with lots of ankle deep rough, because it is so easy to find. And I gain almost half an hour of playing time in the evening with it.
The speed off the putter is a matter of practice, I think. Or I could also switch back to my White Hot XG Sabertooth, because I can putt better with balls like that when using a fairly soft insert.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

I am still using the Yellow along with my White Z-Stars. I can tell you the Yellows helped a lot yesterday, I was in the trees a few times, locating the ball was a breeze. I have lost 4 Yellows this year, they all went to a watery grave.

Played the Z-Star X Tour Yellow again today and I can't help but sing the praises. The ball just does everything right and feels so good. Greens were very very soft today as we had about 2 inches of rain last night but they performed amazingly well. I fired at pins all day long and the ball held every green I hit and was so smooth chipping around the ones I missed.
