For the life of me I can't figure out why they haven't done this already. I have one with tons of lead tape in the cavity, which softens the sound a great deal. I would certainly buy one with the original head design in the 340-350gram range.

what year is that putter from?

I think my Dad bought it in the mid 80's.

This particular photo is of the first issue Anser cast in Scottsdale, AR. They manufactured two versions, a "rocker sole" and a "flat sole." This is a flat sole version that is the inspiration for the Cameron 009 and Byron Morgan DH89. Come on Ping, you would sell tons of these if reproduced in a modern, heavy weight.

Putting surfaces are much smoother and faster than they were years ago. This has necessitated a change in technique. Players used to engage the wrists more as they needed to give the ball a little "pop" to get it rolling on top of the shaggier greens of yesteryear. Today we use less wrists and more shoulders. The heavier putter head allows for a smoother stroke. I am sure that others will agree that a heavier head just feels better. Personally, I feel like I cannot control a putter with a light head.

Very interesting. I would like to try one of these old putters to feel the difference. The Scottsdale Anser looks awesome. I want one even if it is lite.

I check out the used putters bins at the driving range and used sports equipment stores in my area and I find quite a few old Karsten Pings. Many with the 85029 zip code that many prize including a Kushin, Anser 3 and a pre My Day style. I re-gripped the Anser 3 with a Dancing Cameron grip and it putts as well as any modern club.
