Would it be the exact same one as one I would buy in a golf town minus a few personalizations like weight length and so on. Not that I'm a big tiger fan its more that I am curious about if he gets a completely different head even though we drop close to 400$ on a scotty because most of us think we will putt the lights out ( I still love my mizuno branded bettinardi the thing is sweet)

Yes, absolutely.
Besides the grip, shaft, head material, and weight it's identical.
Yes some of the items are standard off the rack items. The grip is just a standard Pingman grip that has the letters blacked out. The shaft is probably some TT shaft. The weight is standard, 330g (IIRC). Tiger has added a couple of strips of lead tape for additional weight (again, standard off the shelf item) partially due to his putter being refinished in the past by Cameron. However, the head material is not standard off the rack. Tiger's putter is made from German Stainless Steel which Cameron uses on his higher end semi-custom putters. Getting a putter made from GSS will probably run around $5,000. That is the going rate from Cameron's distributors and the resale market.

what is the point of the german stainless steel ? better quality control ? or is it for softer feel?

Many people that have putted with the standard 303 Stainless Steel Cameron putters say that the 303 Stainless Steel Cameron gets from Germany (GSS) has a softer feel.

Yes, both the standard Stainless Steel and German Stainless Steel are a 303. The difference in feel can be attributed to the chemical composition that is allowable under the SAE criteria for 303 Stainless Steel.

SAE designation: 303
UNS designation: S30300
% Cr: 17–19
% Ni: 8–10
% C: 0.15
% Mn: 2
% Si: 1
% P: 0.2
% S: 0.15 min
% N: 0
Other: Mo 0.60 (optional)

Depending on the 303 stainless steel chemical composition two different 303 steels can be created that can affect the feel of the putter. As a result, there may be something here that makes people want 303 German Stainless Steel over other 303 Stainless Steels.

No...it isn't even close. The grip and shaft are probably standard OTR items and the head is a newport II shape but rumor has it that his putters were 'cast' (from GSS) so that they would feel (to him) just like the anser he used before his camerons. You can buy a GSS newport II but even then, it won't be identical.

Yes, I said that the grip and shaft were probably off the rack a few posts ago. As far as the shape, it is not exactly the same as off the rack Newport II putters. There is some fine grinding/sanding that is not done on OTR putters. Unless we can physically compare Tigers GSS NP II and a OTR NP II we can only debate. As far as Tiger's putter being cast from GSS (which I do believe) affecting the feel, who knows. Feel is so subjective. All I know is people who have 303 SS putters and the same model in 303 GSS have reported a difference in feel. I have heard that GSS is softer, whether the putter is Cameron or Morgan or whatever.

As far as GSS NP IIs, it has been stated that Tiger has rejected all of the Cameron backups he has made for one reason or another. One time it was reported that Tiger rejected a putter because the site dot was too big on a new backup. The size difference was the width of a piece of paper.

To get back to the original question (as rrkman just said), no, Tigers Newport II is not the same as an OTR, not even close.

RD...I agree on the feel thing. I know I wouldn't be able to tell the difference (cast, forged, skim-milled, hand milled, CNC milled, etc.....GSS, SS, etc.)....but I have friends that swear their GSS is 'softer' than an identical SS. And supposedly, they made numerous putters for Tiger and none of them 'feel' the same as that one. Was also going to bring up the sitedot story but RD covered that. Again, not sure I'd be able to tell that...and not sure how true that is.

The thing is that all the tour players get special treatment and products. There have been stories about pros stopping at a golf shop and using that putter to win a tourney.....but with the tour vans the way they are now, most of the stuff they are using is made specifically for them. Whether it is completely different (like Tiger) or just a little grinding to an OTR head to lower weight or soften the lines....it is not what you are getting at golf galaxy. IMO.
