High School Players or Current College Players

Recommended Posts

Where are you?
For the College players here, what college do you play for?

For High School players, if you have committed or signed with a college, which school is it?

I have not yet committed anywhere and really don't know where I want to go but I have an idea. I will let you know when I committ though.

I have a couple of visits coming up soon

Gehen, you are too kind. My index right now is just south of 10, but my school has 700 students (65% of whom are women).

There really isn't a handicap guideline for college golf, if you can shoot in the 80s, there are a lot of D-II and D-III programs, and a handful of D-I programs that would love to have you.

there are really D1 schools that want someone that shoots in the 80's? I thought you had to consistently be scratch or better to play D1

I wouldn't say they want that person, but some might take the person.

If I hadn't transfered because I hated my golf coach, I would have finished my final year of college golf this past spring

There are a few bad teams (D1) whose best player shoots around 90...lol

I'm going to be a senior this year in high school and have got letters from many D3 colleges (which can't give athletic scholarships, but aid). I'm just very frustrated because I know I have the talent to go to D2 college and play but it seems like time is running out to get offers from these colleges. I sent letters and everything to coach's but no responses back. What else should I do to get a coaches attention? I've been avg. around 75-76 over the summer and into this golf season. Any advice would be appricated. Thanks,

Evan

Instead of playing D3, try playing NAIA. They don't have to follow NCAA rules and can give out as many scholarships as they want.

Do you check your email often? Usually if a school has an interest, they will send you an email rather than sending a letter to your house.

Try emailing some coaches and letting them know that you are interested in their program.

PM me if you have any more questions

i am playing for a community college in Coos Bay, OR this upcoming year (my freshman yr of college). i think it was a good decision for me because i am not sure what i want to do with my studies, so i am going to get all my basic core credits out of the way and enjoy playing golf at a really inexpensive school. i am a 6-7 handicap with a miserable putter, so this is kindve a way for me to see how much better i can get, and then after two years i can see where i am with golf, if i want to continue playing competitively or not. plus, our home course is Bandon Dunes, which cant hurt :help:

I will be getting a D1 scholarship and all I have really done is qualified for US Junior.

Yea, I have had a few decent finishes but have struggled this year...starting to get my scores down again though. I haven't shot above par in the last couple of weeks.

I currently play at Youngstown State Universtiy in Youngstown, Ohio. It's a D-1 school and this will be my 3rd year because I redshirted last year. I'm on full scholarship, but I think part of that is because I have qualified for the U.S. Jr. and the U.S. Am, so I got my scholarship upped after my U.S. Am and from getting first team all conference.

I play at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We're very small (700 students) and Division III, but it allows a lot of opportunities which I wouldn't have at a larger school.

Valparaiso University kicked your football team's butt.

Yeah.....losing 54-0 is nothing to be proud of, but our football team is well.....awful. They have played 3 games and scored a total of 7 points (on an Interception return for a touchdown). Fortunately I didn't pick the school based on the quality of the football team.

Im not sure about some of these comments, I played my freshman year at Temple University a D-1 program, I am taking a year off, to pull my grades up. But i have seen a couple times that 80s are acceptable in D-1 college golf, that is completely untrue. If you are averaging a 75 in High School that is like shooting 80 or 81 at the lengths these courses play and the mental side of it is ALOT harder. If you want to play at a D-1 school you should be averaging somewhere between 68-72, I dont mean to be harsh, but I think way too much emphasis is put on college scores, when I have encountered first hand that scores go through the roof when you get to play in D-1 events.
