Not late '90s, but I remember him bagging an older set of Fluid Feels, a JPII sand wedge and a pair of Flex Twist Graphite-shafted Taylor Made woods in the early/mid 90s.

I remember that Vijay left Wilson as he flat-out refused to use the Fat Shaft clubs they were marketing at the time.
Funny that he ended up using the Apollo Hump shafts in his irons for a while!
EXACTLY what I was thinking as reading through this thread haha!

if i remember right there were two versions of fatshafts, the high handicap version was .500 thick while the low handicap/pro version was only .45 and looked ten times better as well with a "normal" length hozel against the very short hozel on the .500 size fatshafts which made them look even worse to me.

Just something I remember reading at the time - dont know if it was the thicker shafts he didn't like or the clubhead design. The money part makes sense too though.

just another example of somebody trashing Wilson Staff when they dont know wtf they are talking about.Get your facts straight and make sure what you are saying is accurate before posting please.BTW i love the current wide tip shafts in my Di7's because they help make the ball go straight straight straight who cares what they look like, which i dont think is that bad.

Fat Shaft!!!! HAHA! Those clubs are so ugly its unbelievable.

Could you imagine a pro on the range with them! lol!
i love my Di7 fat shafts and they look just as good as any other shaft out but the sraight ballflight they produce on misshits is even prettier,BEAUUUUUUUUTIFUL! That is what a GI iron is supposed to do who cares what they look like anyway as long as they do the job they are supposed to.

At what point did I "trash" Wilson Staff? I read in more than one magazine that he didn't like those clubs, and that it was a reason he moved on. As others have said the money aspect of it may have been a factor. Wind your neck in pal, this is a discussion board.

"kosher story" not sure but im sure that Wilson Staff would have gave him a normal set of shafts to play there is no way it happened that way

Dang smooth, tone it down a notch. If anyone says (though I don't think it was mentioned) that the stuff you happen to play is crap, who cares? I play Wishon irons and I'm sure some people out there think they suck. I couldn't care less, nor should you.

Maybe Vijay left because of the equipment, maybe he left because of the money. Maybe it was a combo of the two, and that's more than likely the cause. Either way, it's a golf forum and I would guess that a good percentage of the stuff posted here is complete BS.

I read the piece some years ago, back in the days when magazines were made of paper  Can't remember for sure but it was probably Golf World. Not saying it is absolute fact, but the article suggested he was unhappy with the clubs, but I'll accept it was a monetary decision. For what it's worth I rate Wilson stuff, the pro at my club stocks it and I would happily play with a set of their irons and woods. Keep chilling. :drinks:

VJ was using FG 55's before he departed wilson. Think he tried the Staff Power chamber Driver for a while but certainly remember him bagging a tour spoon as fairway wood for majority of his career. He did use a set of Wilson Ultra system 45s for a week maybe?
