The Strata Tour Ace was a wonderful successor and I preferred it hands down over the Pro V produced at the time.

Maxfli used to make a ball called the Steel Spin.
This was late 90's/early 2000's. It was pretty cheap and flew forever.

Maxfli A.10 bad a** ball in every aspect

Bridgestone E5 hands down. 2 piece high launch ball with a eurothane cover and the best I have seen alignment aid for putting. I love this ball around the green, on iron shots and of the tee. The $27 retail price aint bad either! If you low ball hitters have not tried this one, I would say give it a rip. Yo wont be disappointed.

I agree with you here. They went out of round easy when you swung badly. A side effect, however, was learning how to hei well. Pocket pain had a way of making you learn.

I played the old Spalding Tour Edition and loved it. Much more durable than the Balata balls. When they stopped making the TE I went with the Maxfli XS Tour ball. Again a 2 piece with a soft cover that gave good spin. Lasted long and gave good distance and feel. I now play either the ProV1X or Nike One Tour D ball.

Maxfli Tour Fire was a great ball for a good price. I believe TM bought them and released them as Burner TP. If I could afford it, I would play b330s all day... Nike One D is the best pro ball for the price. I can normally them for $30 bucks a box. Best value ball.

Wilson Staff - C:25 i am loving this ball more and more everyday but,the only negative is the cover really rips up after the wedge has smacked it 3 or 4 times.

i want to ask a question it will probably be the stupidest one you guys have heard in a while but what is a balata ball and how is it different from a regular ball?please forgive my stupidity but i am fairly new to golf and have never heard of a balata ball before but i read a bunch of posts in this thread that mentions them.

Balata is the cover material. 3 piece balls would have a solid or liquid center with windings around it and usually a surlyn or balata cover. The balata was the softer of the two and would spin more, usually with the cost being a loss of distance and poor durability. Most balata balls would lose their round shape after a few holes and can be cut with a single aggressive wedge shot. The biggest thing with balata covers is that they are soft and have, in my opinion, a better feel to them than today's premium balls.
