What am i doing wrong

I've never backed up a full wedge shot, either a 60 degree or 56 degree it doesn't matter. I have a high ball flight and fast swing speed (driver 125) but can't back up a wedge...what gives? my normal wedge one hops and then stops just like all my other irons, even down to the 4 iron. I have played the pro v1x and z star x and callaway ix and can't back these balls up. also on half wedge shots, my ball one hops then stops. I have a mild fade (sometimes push fade) and take a good sized divot. I hit my 60 degree 110 yards and 56 degree 125.. help! could it be the wedge i use.. its a pretty old mizuno mp -r? but even my new callaway x tour 56 full wedge shot doesn't back up. do i need to swtich to illegal grooves?

Actually, the new grooves generate just as much spin off the fairway as the older ones, where it cuts the spin down is out of the rough.To me, at least, your just not generating enough backspin on your strike. You're getting a fair amount for it to one hop and drop, just not enough to back it up. Only thing I could suggest is to try and sweep the club under the ball more instead trying to take a traditional stroke with a divot with your wedges.

for more spin you need a steeper angle of attack without taking a huge divot. The key is hitting down on the ball with clean contact(divot after the ball). your hands need to stay ahead of your club head. A lot of people try and flip the ball up in the air with the hands thus killing back spin. the height and spin have to be created by the loft and club head speed.

On another note, do really want to create backspin? There is nothing worse than hitting a great shot into the green pin high and then watching it suck back 20 feet!. I would much rather have that 5 footer for birdie instead of a nasty 20 footer!
