Covers or not.
OK. You just spent 800.00 on a beautiful set of forged blades. They are blinging chrome and oh so soft and fragile. Do you put covers on them and look like a weenie, or let fate take it's course and slowly turn you prized possession to beaten up warsticks. I am truly torn. I own 2 sets a Mac 1025 M's. I just took out the new set and compared them to the old set, 5 years old played without covers. I am thinking I would like to keep them pristine. So I am going to put it to a poll. Covers or not. Thanks for your input.

Drape a towel over them; they won't chatter as much.

Don't do it man just let them be. I almost got covers for my irons and after 5 minutes of mulling it over at Golftown I walked out empty handed. 5 rounds later my irons were all used looking and I still feel great about them!

If you are averse to them hitting each other and leaving marks, you might want to consider a product called the "Club Organizer". It attaches to your bag and holds the irons in place by attaching to the hosel. It lets you show your "tools" without them getting knocked about. It also keeps them in numerical order. The gadget holds 9 irons. Others may find this a lame tool too but it is probably less OC than keeping covers on the clubs. Hope this helps.

Bringing up the subject of iron covers is a gutsy thing to do on this and other equipment forums---opinions run very strong on this subject (usually anti-cover)!!!

Having said that, if I have a set of forged irons that I know I'm going to keep, I don't use covers. If I'm not sure, or I know I'm not going to keep them for long, I use covers because they will be worth more at resale. No offense to the anti-cover people, but if they're looking to buy a used set of forged irons, I'm guessing they would prefer the ones in better condition!!!

Don't worry about other opinions. If you want them to look new you have a few options:

Iron covers
bagboy revolver style bag w/ the cliplock divider
snake a towel through them
Who cares what everyone else thinks. I can't believe how passionate people are about this. Some people don't care about resale value, some people don't care about things looking 'new', some people just don't care about their equipment (can't believe how many people just ride around without headcovers on their woods and putters). Don't let any of them sway you if you want to keep your stuff looking new. I've seen some other threads asking the same thing and I swear some people just feel superior to others and feel the need to make fun of others.

Some of the best guys I've played with have used iron covers. Don't worry about what your bag looks like, you know you have nice looking sticks and every time you take a headcover off you'll be happy with what you have.

I've thought about getting some to use while my clubs are in the truck of my car just to keep them from banging around. My bag usually never leaves the trunk in the summer, I never know when i might get the urge to hit the range or go play. I would never have them on while on the course though.

Mizuno does NOT recommend covers because they hold moisture on the club and can cause rusting. Im pretty sure they know what they are talking about. I can live with chatter on my irons, but not rust.

as long as you keep your irons dry they wont rust, if you dont wipe them off before you put a headcover on then ya over time they will rust.

This is a better fix than covers. I use to use covers before I started playing Pings. But I will never need to buy another bag. I have nothing to do with this company other than I bought a cart bag from them. THIS IS hands down the best money I ever spent in 35 years of playing golf period!

First and foremost, you should be walking, not riding, and the covers add a lot of unnecessary weight.

In addition, the sound of club chatter is one of the charms of the game, especially if there is no paint to chip, as in the case of a driver. Enjoy that sound and others like the should clubs make when they come out of the bag; don't mute them. Not to get all mystical, but sound is part of the Zen of what we do when we play golf.

If guys on tour started using iron covers, everyone here would be gaming them.

Look at guys that started using amino vital towels...wear their sunglasses on the back of their hat so they don't cover the logo...the list goes on. The market is driven by tour use.

That said, if you want the covers, use them. The only issue is your irons will be more prone to rust if they are not 100% dry when you cover them. I use them on my wedges only for that reason. Other than that, there is no reason not to use them other than the appearance stigma and they are sometimes a pain. Not to mention the countless times you will leave them in the fairway.

I'm an anti-cover guy but have indeed used them in the past. One observation is they eventually fall off and you loose one then two and so on; becomes cumbersome and you will eventually get annoyed and ditch them...BB

I have a Bag Boy Revolver on my Yamaha Drive...best cart bag bult. I stil use Club Gloves on all my irons just because I know I will be selling them at the end of the season, and i get top dollar when they are ding free. I also buff the soles before I sell them to remove scratches. The covers are not that big of an inconvienence when you play cart golf.

Do these suckers stay on?

I use covers because its annoying when im using my carry bag and the clubs are clattering off each other when walking along. My clubs are forged too and i wipe them down after each round and then dry the covers for the next day.

I bought these covers on ebay... very cheap
