Studio 1 Stripped

I am about to buy a studio 1 that has had it's black finish stripped off. It looks pretty cool but I am wondering about the longevity of the putter. How will I keep it from rusting? Why would people do it? THe seller said he stripped the finish to cut down on glare. Has anyone else had any experience with this?

If all else fails I can send it to Scotty for a customization. I am getting it for 125 bucks.

BTW...does anyone have a yellow scotty cover they would be willing to get rid of?

I understand there are cheaper one's out there I just wanted to find out others experience with studios that have been taken down to the raw metal.

I have had a few stripped Studios and yes, they will rust...........quickly. Not sure why people strip them, but I also have wondered about the Coke'd Ansers a time or two.

If you keep them oiled, like a normal Studio or Blued Newport, it'll help a ton on the rust issue. The feel isn't any different than a blued model, as it is just a chemical stain that doesn't alter the metal's surface.

If you decide to blue it, make sure you do your best to polish all of the tiny nicks out. The tendency is to just clean it up a bit and blue it in a hurry. It'll look different, but not better.

The Cameron Putter Studio would make it look better than new, if you choose a Cameron Restoration. It may look too good to put back into play. I ran into that with my Santa Fe, my M-200 and my oil can Newport. I got them back and couldn't bring myself to set them on grass or drop them into my bag.

I say, if you choose to, polish it up a bit (leave the face alone. I never want to mess with that.), slap a good hot blue on it, and putt with it like it was meant to be used. A home bluing is easy to touch up or re-do and you won't be out the $130 for the resto.

If you decide that you want to touch up the face with a re-mill, Byron Morgan or Tom Slighter could probably do that, fairly inexpensively.

I have decided against the purchase. I found a local shop with a used Studio 1.5 (2006 version) with headcover and in mint condition for 180. I think I found a deal since they are selling on ebay and everywhere for about 250. Thanks for your help.

Another place that does refinishing in Oil Can and Black Matte finish is BOS. There is some history here (good and bad) between Scotty Cameron and BOS. I understand the history but as they are not changing my putter in anyway, other than finish, I personally have no problem in sending them my gamer to convert from GB finish to Oil Can as the Cameron Studio will not do this.
