Worth a Darn?

Hi all,

I picked up some Wilson Staff Fifty Elite from Academy Sports on clearance 2 nights ago for $6.99 a box. I thought the price was excellent, so I bought like 7 dozen. I remembered playing some of these long ago, and liked them, but didn't think so much about how my swing has gotten better and more specifically faster. I usually use a Pro V1x or Callaway Tour i(z). I can spin those very well, sometimes too well ....

I am curious with a driver speed of 105ish ... did I just waste some money? I am concerned about ballooning and also greenside manner. I kind of hope I didn't just waste some cash, but I can tell you it wouldn't be the first time. LOL. Greens I play on are usually pretty receptive and not that hard at all, but do roll quite well.

For your swing speed these may get relegated to cold weather golf. Let me know if you want to unload some of those. Decent ball for me and that was a great price!

This ball has a Cult following... mostly Senior and slower swing speed players. It is also very popular in Winter with all player types.
With your Swing Speed it may not suit your Summer game, but in cool and cold play it will serve you well.
The WS Zip is a slightly better ball with similar compression and feel.

What temps/conditions would this serve better in cold weather? I live in Texas and we don't get a whole lot of cold weather down here .... cold as in 60? or cold as in 40? LOL.

I have a 108 ish S.S. (6-iron 91) and i play the 50's along with the C:25's all year not just the winter and, they work great for me. I prefer the soft feel although with my fast S.S. the experts say i aint supposed to like softer compression balls. I have only been playing golf for a year so, i have FAR less experience than most of you guys but, i swear i cant tell that i have any distance loss or ballooning from these balls. Maybe i am wrong and , i do plan on doing some sort of test when it warms up so i will know for sure but, in regular play i've not noticed it. I love the soft feel and, i can spin the 50's like they are a 3-piece, in my opinion it is one of the best 2-piece balls in golf and, is certainly the best value.
