Top Flite Gamer V2 - Bait and Switch

Maybe I am pickier than most by nature since I am an engineer, however I usually look to see if something is made in the USA. I've noticed that some boxes of Top Flite Gamer V2 boxes indicate they are made in China and others say Made In USA??? Makes me wonder, did Callaway put out the Gamer V2 wait for the buzz to be built and then send production to China??? It probably is psycological but I prefer to only use balls made in the USA -

If this is true I doubt that it was intentional since the production location of a golf ball is not really a deciding factor to most people and if it were there would be a huge sticker on the front of the box stating "Made in the USA".

Even if the balls were produced in the US, I highly doubt all of the materials that went into it were.

I currently play Titleist DT SoLo which are made in the USA and recently was playing Pinnacles - also made in the USA (by Titleist). I guess the my biggest gripe is that more and more of the balls are being made overseas yet they are the same price... other balls similar to the DT's I tried were TM Burner LDP, Srixon Soft Feel and Nike Crush -- all seemed simliar in Performance but for the same price $19.99 I would rather support an American Job...

If you want to support American jobs buy from the huge companies that market and advertise alot (Taylor Made comes to mind) as they employ a huge number of administrative/sales/marketing jobs here in the US.

Also keep in mind that most of the US production in this industry happens close to the Mexico boarder (not really supporting American jobs IMO)

Haha, great engineer minds think alike.. I am same way. (Although I also don't mind Made in Japan since I associate them with quality as well and love their watches)

I also currently am playing new DT Solos! Are you sure the Crush and Srixon is USA?

The DT Solo is actually a pretty decent ball. I found it no different than any other similar priced 2-piece balls and in fact it might even be a bit better than most judging from wedge tests I have seen. But the Gamers rule for the price. Just get the USA ones.

I have found that pretty much all Titleists are Made in USA and same with Pinnacles (both made by Acushnet). The higher end Nike balls (Vapor, Tour) are either USA or Japan. Most of Callaways are also USA made. It is harder to find Made in USA GOLF goods, but it makes me feel better to seek them out as every little bit helps (even if it doesn't at least I think it does..)

Just bought "Made in USA" golf grips for all my clubs.

  • 2 weeks later...

For Christmas my wife gave me a box of Gamers V2 with "made in China" on them. I looked at an old box that I had on the shelf and is has "made in USA". I usually look for USA but it was a Christmas present so I guess I will play them. I bet they all play the same.
