Not only will they NOT stop selling the old ProV, but they are going to continue selling AND producing them after the 2011 ProV hits the market!

This will allow them to draw an even higher price for the 2011 ProV... How's that for smart?

Everyone always wants the last years model once the new one is released.... Now you can have it. But be careful what you wish for, because now you will pay even more for the current years model.

Not surprising... The Penta has moved around in price, but still sticks at the 45/46 street price at some places.

I've started seeing the trend for the top tier balls of each brand, staying at that 42/45 mark..

I've never, ever paid more than $39.99 for ProV1's.. Even before the annual Christmas sale.

No I haven't...had a few of the earlier prototypes but not sure if these are the same as those. The letter I got for Staff Professionals said this was the final product for the new ball... Hoping to travel south in a month or so to try them out.

Yeah I've got my proto's as well. Hoping to give them a run once we get to see some green grass out from under the damn snow. I've got the "final product" as well. From what I've heard from a few staffers, they're a great upgrade. Improved on the weaknesses of both balls (if there were any)

Mainly durability, feel, and some other little things....Pretty pumped. My rep said he loves the new boxes too hahaha He's such a cornball.

I'll stick with my Penta's... I am curious to see what "new" things they have done with the series.

  • 2 weeks later...

Titleist rep was apparently at the club today. Stopped in to play 9 after work and mess around. Was talking to my Pro, and he had some of the balls in the white sleeves.

Explained that the new ProV1 is going to be higher spin than last years model, softer, and yield a higher launch, while not losing ANY distance from last years ball.

The ProV1x is said was going to be a similar ball flight, slightly lower, same spin around greens as last year, with a lower launch, less spin spin. 4 yards longer than the ProV1..or so the rep said. Longer distance, lower flight, less spin which he said if you work the ball TOO much, might help some.

Said that if from 100 yards and in, you got flag hunting normally, then the ProV1 would be the ball of choice over the V1x in terms of workability and spin close in.

So he gave me a ball and said try it out. I normally play the ProV1x.

The launch is GREAT with this ball. I need a higher launch these days, especially with the driver. Windy today and I saw very little if any loss of distance into the wind. Great penetrating flight, plenty of roll on damp fairways, and feels VERY nice. Buddy commented that it sounded like I killed it on most shots.

Iron shots were FANTASTIC. Love, love, love the flight with this ball. Slightly higher than normal, but not towering high. Hit a 4 iron with it, 210 to the green, and it sits down within 3 1/2 ft of the pitch mark. Did it with a 6 iron, and 8 iron too. Wedges were another story. I'm a slightly higher than normal spin guy. I fight spin in the long clubs, and reap it in the short ones. I used some well worn, 2 1/2 year old TM wedges today. I was about to drop and stop. Even on baby swing pitches and short sided shots. I loved the way it worked around the greens. Typical ProV1, but to me, just even softer feeling with wedges.

My buddy, who is a strong wedge player, but really struggled with check it up when he needs it. I tossed him the ball, and he had BRAND NEW TM wedges. He hit it kinda fat, but it came in low, hit, and stopped, actually spin like a top with some side spin. Pretty funny.

The ball played 9 holes, and had ONE mark on it. His short sided 58* wedge. New grooves, and he put a rub on the side of the ball. Nothing bad though.. I didn't do anything to it with my clubs.

I liked the durability. I really liked the low key alignment on it this year. Last year was a little busy. The dimples remind me of a Bridgestone ball. The cover "feels" harder with my nail, but I noticed literally no loss in spin. This ball spins MORE than last years ProV1, and drives like a ProV1x.

Putting was normal, not mushy, but might be with an insert putter. Great feel, roll.

All in all.. I'm a normal ProV1x player, who might be jumping ship and playing the ProV1.. I always played the ProV1x because it launched better for me, was "longer" and still gave me some short game spin.. This ball is no shorter, maybe slightly longer if at all, but the feel and spin around the greens and the pure launch with the irons is solid as ever a ball I've used.

Might be trading some stock piled Pentas for the new balls.

Oh, and FYI. In stores next week.
