Srixon Z-Star Yellow vs TM Penta Practice

both $30/doz, you tell me
ok, i am headed to Myrtle Beach in two weeks and need to pick up some balls. i love the Yellow Z stars and have been my preferred ball choice since last year. however, i have yet to play the Penta and now that the Practice balls are readily available at Edwin Watts, i was thinking of trying them. both are $30/doz, so that evens the playing field some.

i prefer a soft feeling ball, and of course love the marshmallow feeling of the Z-star.

what would you do? i hear the Penta is soft too, but i love the yellow. what would i be gaining from the switch? or stay with the Z-star?

I'd say stick with a ball you know and love. If they are working for you and why mess with that success.

I have not played the Penta Practice balls, but I can't see that you'll get the same performance from the practice Penta as you would from the normal Penta, but I may be wrong maybe someone who has played the Penta and Penta practice balls can give more insight.

If you like the softer ball, stick with the Z-Star. The Penta TP practice don't feel quite as soft to me.

That said, I prefer the Penta TP, as I'm getting a bit more short game spin and the Z-Star is a tad soft for me. The Pentas are better than the TP Blacks I was using though.

I cannot speak for TM, but often practice balls are balls that do not pass inspection, and they do not feel comfortable releasing to the public at full price for whatever reason. That is why they are selling it at a reduced price

The Srixon Z-Star is $30 a dozen because it is a close out of first quality product, they are trying to make room for the new ball coming out 3/1.

So if you already like the Z-star...why change?

Both good. For me the Penta is fairly low spin off the driver and really nice around the greens. Short irons and wedges spin back hard but not as much as the ProV1. My driver distance is a little better with the Penta on average. That said, I played 18 with 1 Z Star Hi-Vis yesterday and it performed great. Spin not much of an issue on winter greens in Kansas but well struck shots held well. I'll stick with the Z-Stars at least through the winter. I'm not that old but the Hi-Vis cover was great with the brown conditions.

Defintiely the ZStar... personally hated the Penta.

Bring back the TP Red LDP! :clapping:

I agree about the TP Red's I have a dozen under my bed I'll sell for 60. Do the Srixons have a comparable feel to the tp reds. If not does anything compare to the tp reds.

I have both, and played both. I think the Z star feels harder off everything but the putter compared to the Penta. Both are soft though.. I get more spin with the Penta, but get more from the long clubs from the Z star.

But I'd suggest playing what your used too.. No reason to change.. Or buy a dozen of the Pentas to try out, pretty decent ball.

[/quote]I think you are confusing PRACTICE and X-OUTS, The X-OUTS are the ones that don't pass inspection. PRACTICE should be the same quality. Having said that, The Z Star is a great ball. I like trying evrything though. I would pick up a dozen of each and do a little play testing.

The Tour D comes close to the TP Red LDP... close. The ZStar is softer but still retains that responsiveness, not mushy like the Penta was for me.
