GPS Holder on your Push Cart

Recommended Posts

As mentioned above, RAM Mounts are the only way to go. Modular design, and more custom cradles than any other manufacturer. I mount a G5 (the granddaddy of GPS at over 6 ounces) to a cart. I bought the custom Oregon cradle, a threaded 1 inch ball, aluminum arm, and diamond plate with 1 inch ball.

I screwed the threaded ball to one of my photo C-Clamps and that clamps to the cart rail. A little overkill but it is rock solid, and adjusts with just a half turn of the knob on the arm.

Go to the RAM site and look in "components" and you will find everything you need build the perfect mount. Parts are available in composite or aluminum. For a push cart I would start with a handlebar base and go from there. Later, if you change devices, you just need a new cradle.

What do I need a "custom" cradle for, when the Bracketron Mount adjusts to fit different sizes, and has rubber at all contact points?
Why would I want to have to order a mount for this GPS, and then ANOTHER mount when I wanna use a different GPS, or another if I decide to use my smartphone?

"Custom" mounts are fine if your gonna use something for 1 item, if you have any inkling of changing stuff then adjustable is a much better option IMO.

I am very intrigued by the idea of using parts from Ram Mount so I can undo the ghetto way that I hooked up the phone to the cart last year but holy crap is their website confusing. If somebody with a little more intelligence than myself ( can't be too hard I am pretty stupid ) could make a recommendation for what I would need to mount my Droid 1 to my Sun Mountain V1 I would really appreciate it. Just looking to mount it to either the umbrella screw part or the frame tubes. It seems like a simple thing that I should figure out but ram-mount.com sure seems overwhelming to me.

Thanks for your time.

Try using a universal to mount a Garmin G5 in a vertical position on a cart and driving the mountain course I play. It will end up in the bottom of the cart or maybe even the cart path. The custom cradles are much more secure, will hold the device at any angle, and their dual ball joint system allows you to adjust it to any angle.

If you're happy with a plastic universal mount, fine. But if you are looking for the best fit, security, and versatility, you can't beat RAM's modular, aluminum construction and custom cradles. If you change devices you just swap the cradle... it is two screws. If you decide to mount it in a cup holder versus a handlebar, just change base... it is zero screws.

This thread is about Push Carts, not doing 25 MPH in a driving cart, and the bracketron has a ball as well as lower edge clip pads that keep it from falling down.
That ram mount in that pic looks like it's plastic to me, not that it has to be anything else anyway.

No biggy, but the term "the only way to go" is quite far fetched to me, because there are proven alternatives.

Have a Good Day

Nigel,

The RAM mount system consists of 3 assemblies:

A base with a 1 inch rubber ball. This can be as simple as a threaded post, or a variety of clamps and surface mounts.

A cradle with a 1 inch rubber ball.

An arm that clamps to the rubber balls at both ends with a single 'wing nut' type screw.

The cradles are usually composite material, allowing them to flex open to remove and insert the device, but the rest of the system is available in composite or aluminum (I prefer the aluminum).

If you go to their site at:

http://www.ram-mount.com/EmptyPages/COMPONENTS/BCOMPONENTS/tabid/1556/Default.aspx

you will see all of the bases, arms, and cradles/holders in the 1 inch ball size and you can mix and match to build the perfect mount for you. You'll need to order 4 parts. Base with ball, arm, cradle for your device, and a diamond plate with ball to mount to the cradle (cradles screw to the diamond plate with the ball).

Or you could just call the guys at http://www.gpscity.com and tell them what you need and they will hook you up. Not only do they have some of the best pricing, they really know the line and are happy to help.

Sorry. I tend to want to do things as right as I possibly can. The RAM cradles lock the device in solidly without putting pressure on its case, and still make it easy to remove and reinsert the device. And by solidly I mean rigid (no slop or wiggle).

The other parts of the mount are available in either composite or aluminum. I can literally hang my golf bag off this mount, and just a half turn of the arm's wing nut allows me to adjust the device to any angle via 180° swivel at both ends of the arm.

The modularity of the system means I can mount a variety of devices to a variety of surfaces without duplicating parts. I guess I should have written "the best way to go".
