copper insert

How soft is the copper insert of the Betts?

I now have a MC2 which is the BB8 I think in a black thunder finish with copper insert. Not sure if I'm going to put it in play or sell it. It is basically brand new.

I have a few copper inserts and they play like a Cameron Tei3. Pretty soft...

Mistake..... the MC2 is not based on any BB model. It is based on the Ping Pal. Tei3? That's pretty soft. Softer than I prefer. I suppose I can take it out for a few rounds and decide to sell it as a 9/10 instead. My wife uses a Ping Pal but I don't think she would appreciate the putter. I checked on TKS the value is pretty high.

Actually, the gold plated copper insert in the Bett offers my favorite feel among Bett putters - the problem is the glare it gives the ball and the green. It's softer than DASS and their Carbon Steel. Very nice, especially with the firmer cover of today's balls.

Did you notice if the honeycomb pattern wears out faster on the copper inserts? I have seen betts where the spot are worn down. My other ones are starting to show wear as well. No real reason to ask a putter is a putter. Just being anal I guess.

That's still in good shape. How many seasons does that have on it I'll hopefully post my WITBags sometime next week when the new camera gets in. I've lost >$1000 in cameras in the past 2 years.

You guys are right the copper insert is soft. I tried it out yesterday. I took a while to get putts to the hole. Once I adjusted though I was fine. Looks like it will be an addition to the collection. New camera came in today. I'll get pics up of my stuff next week.

One complaint though scratches on the sole show up quicker. Any tips for maintenance? A sharpie, gun blue?

The scratches on the sole - one can't help - but you can minimize them by using a mild polish - I use wenol blue - fairly mild - or you can use a very soft compound on my Betts.

My old Bett had several seasons on it before a new owner wanted it.

Good luck - I putted well with my 23. I just wanted a bit more weight in the head. Enjoy.
