R7 Stand Bag

Recommended Posts

Do you have one, If so how do you like it?
Well I have carried ping hoofer bag for about 7 or 8 years. I really stayed with them because I like the stand design, it is very solid. I have had other stand bags before and they ended up getting wobbly and the stand got loose however the ping has always stood strong. The one thing ping is lacking is the pockets and the versatility in the pockets. I am also getting sick of the same old thing and just want a change, This is why I am thinking about getting the r7 Stand bag. I will list some of the things that I like the look of and some of the things I am not sure about with the r7 and please give me a review on what you think of the bag.

- I like the over all look of the bag
- I REALLY like the way the pockets on the front of the bag almost resemble their staff bags only miniaturized
- I like the idea of the cooler bag but I am not sure how well it would work
- I like the amount of pocket that it has
- I like the club dividers; I have always had a problem with ping hoofers and my clubs jamming up no matter what I did
- Weight is not really an issue because ping bags are pretty heavy anyway so I am use to it

- I don't like that fact that it's an (r7) model bag only because in a few years the (r7) will be like a Firesole and the bag might seemed out dated
- I am not sure about the stand it looks pretty sturdy but I am not sure about the bottom plastic piece when you are constantly putting down and picking it up

Well those are the things I can think of. Please let me know what you think of the bag and any good or bad experiences you have had with it.

Also if you can think of any other carry bags that have a resemblance of a staff bag like the r7 please let me know.

I got one to replace an OGIO bag, mostly to get an extra bag in the household for my oldest son. When I first got it, I went back and forth on whether I was happy with it or not. In use, I really have come to like the bag. I really like the small pockets and their configuration - works just right for me. If it had about one inch bigger diameter at the bottom of the bag, I think it would be about perfect - I do have a problem occaisionally with clubs tangling, but it is no worse than any other bag I have ever tried. The OGIO bag I had seemed a little sturdier construction wise, but I like the TM bag better overall. I am happy with it and will not be looking for another bag for a while...

It has cooled of here, so its hard to evaluate the effectiveness of the 'cooler' pocket, but the outside drink holder will hold a much bigger bottle (32 oz Gatorade) than the OGIO would hold. Capacity of the outside drink pocket goes up/down with what is in the pocket behind it.

I too like the psuedo-staff bag looks of this bag.

Picked mine up 'like new' on eBay for $110 with a couple of TM visors thrown in. Really happy with the purchase!

The straps are comfy enough even for a big guy like me. The edges are sharper than the R7 straps if that is an issue for you. That starp themselves are also smaller. The connection of the strap to the bag, the clasp, disconnects easily but only when in storage.

I use it most when I am travelling because it is the lightest bag I have. Local airlines only allow 20kgs of luggage. I usually bring 12 clubs whenever I travel so 12 clubs is not an issue fit wise.

My complaint is that space on the top. It is too big to be a putter well in such a small bag, but to small for woods. I only carry a driver and a 4 wood when I travel, I put them there and it still I tight fit. So a putter and an umbrella goes in there. You can put another club with your putter there but it doesn't look right.

Also make sure you take care of the flap for the stand mechanism. Mine fell off 1x, I reglued it back on and it has been fine since.

The weight is the biggest upside. If weight is not your primary concern there are a lot better bags out there.

"xxio",

How's the levitator? Are the straps comfortable? Is it difficult getting 14 clubs in? I looked at one tonight and those were my only concerns.

thanks.

I have one of the early wilson levitators (it's about 6-8 years old now). Still working well. My only problem with it is that the threads are starting to come off now, so I'm in the market for a new bag. And I did break one of the legs on the stand while playing in -10 degree weather at the hinge (it's plastic), but had no problem repairing it. I can't say much about the new ones, but if is anything like the older version, pick one up. The straps that are on mine feel like izzos and are so comfortable. However, I'm sure that they have changed quite a few things over the years...

This picutre doesn't do it much justice.
