"In the beginning the only concept I had of a milled putter was what the golf world already had produced. As far as I was concerned the landscape was limitless. In 1990 I began my foray into making the finest putters in the world. The complex engineering process of the one piece technology putters has set a new standard in the putter industry. The bar has forever been raised on putter quality and consistency. We deliver the finest putter because personal attention is given throughout the manufacturing process. Given this background we have selected a few putters that are truly collectables." - Bob Bettinardi.

• Collectible edition produced by Bettinardi after he left Scotty Cameron and before he began working for the Ben Hogan Company

• Fabricated from single block of carbon steel for solid feel

• Honey Combed face, heel-toe weighting and low center of gravity enhance consistency and feel

To be fair, this is a somewhat untested review, but I will try to keep the smilies to a minimum to convey how serious my feelings on this putter are. I got my putter too late in the season to give it too much of a go, but I’m betting dollars to donuts that it will be in the bag for quite a while, so I’ll follow up when I get more experience.

For pics click on the link in my signature—again, dollars to donuts it’s still there. My putter is a DASS BB18, Tour Special Southpaw, 27/30 made on 10.6.02. Headweight is 360 grams, currently on a 35” shaft—but I’ll be getting it cut down soon enough (still hesitant to ship and I want to get it cut down either by TKS or Studio B).

Appearance: Seriously, I couldn’t design a putter better (yes, a big, fat, understated no-s***-sherlock) and wouldn’t change a thing on this one. I love the shaft-over hosel and the minimalized half-shaft offset. The thick top line and finely satinized finish is a perfect balance of bling without the blind—you know from sunlight. The face looks money—I honestly don’t know if the honeycombing has any real world effects, but I can’t eyeball the difference in flatness between forged, cast, and other milled putters. But like the rest of this putter, the face is just one more example of the meticulous attention that Mr. Bettinardi gives his putters (personally, I love the hosel millings too).

Feel: For my money, 360 some-odd grams at 33” is about as good as you can get in stainless. This provides the perfect balance of tracking and distance control (look at that, something I learned on the David Mills chat, or at least the articulation—thanks again golfWRX). To be fair, this putter feels VERY similar to my Von’s putter (365g @ 33”, SSS anser-style putter), but what is VERY industrial in the Von’s is VEERRY finished in the Bettinardi. Appearance does affect perceived feel, so the nod definitely goes to the Bett. Also the DASS does have what I like to call the price-tag dampening effect so very good feel.

Performance: Honestly, this is where I can’t fairly qualify this putter, too early in the game. Putting green and carpet putts, I can’t miss. :) However, it does get a definite nod over the Von’s, which has been my steady backup for over a year so I am very confident that this one will work for me very well.

Intangibles: In addition to the performance factor, the bling factor in this putter definitely keeps me from looking elsewhere. The only putter I really want, really badly (well, TP Mills, but that don’t count) is a backup BB18 from TKSputters.com. Which is another one of the intangible benefits of this putter. Although I didn’t get my putter through him, Todd S. has been incredibly helpful in providing stats and background on my putter. He also hooked me up with a couple Tour-Only/Japanese-released covers. Very great support from Todd S. and Robert Bettinardi. It shows the faith they have in their product, which helps weak-minded souls like me to have faith as well.

Conclusion: For me, it doesn’t get better. I was extremely fortunate to be able to pick mine up for what I did. Right now, I couldn’t afford to pick up a backup, but am comfortable enough to use my Von’s for when I travel. When Slighter is able to flip the Bellevue to the South-Side I’ll look into that as my travel putter (made as close to spec as possible to the BB18). But if I ever get famous, and any of you is asked to pick the Holy Putter of which I played Indiana Jones-style—you guys can now choose wisely. :cheesy:

I would have to say that of the (9) Classic Bettiardi's I own, my personal favorites are the BB8, (soft carbon steel), and the BB41 with its brass "dots" on the face and "brass ingots" in the rear cavity for maximum heel/toe weighting. (The BB41 is 1 of 3 limited production DASS Millennium models). DASS = Double Aged Stainless Steel.

For play I prefer the "flattened Anser style" look of the (2) models above when you set the head behind the ball. That said, it is hard to beat the slightly thinner blade on the orignal anser-styled Classic BB1. This BB1 is the orignal Bettinardi Classic and has its own unique feel. Like the BB8, the orignal production BB1 is also made of soft carbon steel.

These (3), the BB1, BB8, and BB41 are a cut above the rest in my opinion.

That said, the other (6) Bettinardis I own are really fantatic putters too, and the only other Bettinardi styles that really had eye appeal for me. Once I had these (9), I was very content to pass on the other Bettinardis.

My other (6) models are:

- BB1-ms (ms = mid-slant hosel) - Soft carbon steel with 24 carat gold insert. A rare and very valuable style.
- BB1-ss (ss = short-slant hosel) - Soft Carbon steel
- BB1-ssi (Same style as above but the "i" = 24K gold face insert) - Soft carbon steel
- BB-42 (Another "work of art" DASS Millennium model with brass dots on both the face and in the rear cavity)
- BBX-80 (Mercedes Championships edition - Brass colored "X" material in the classic anser stle)
- BBX-81 (The brass-colored "X" material in the Ping Zing style)

All these models are worth considerably more now than what I paid for them when brand new about 10 years ago. These remain in either or new or "mint"condition today. All have the original Bettinardi "Honeycomb" Leather headcovers. It is a very nice collection if I do say so myself. I suspect that when I pass on, these Bettinardi classics will likely remain in the Family.

I would have to say that of the (9) Classic Bettiardi's I own, my personal favorites are the BB-8, (soft carbon steel), and the BB-41, (1 of 3 limited production DASS Millennium models). Note: DASS = Double Aged Stainless Steel. I love the "flattened Anser style" look of the (2) models above when you set the head behind the ball. That said, it is awfully hard to beat the slightly thinner blade and the orignal anser styled head of the RJB Classic BB-1. It is still generally regarded as the best Bettinardi Classic for feel and accuracy. Like the BB-8, The BB-1 is made of soft carbon steel. These (3) Putters, the BB-1, BB-8, and BB-41 are my personal picks of the litter when it comes to all the various Bettinardi Putters.

That said, the other (6) Bettinardis I own are really fantatic putters too, and the only other Bettinardi styles that really had eye appeal for me. Once I had these (9), I was very content to pass on the other Bettinardis.

My other (6) models are:

- BB-1ms (ms = mid-slant) - Soft carbon steel
- BB-1ss (ss = short slant - Soft Carbon steel
- BB1ssi (The "i" = 24K gold face insert) - Soft carbon steel
- BB-42 (Another "work of art" DASS Millennium model)
- BBX-80 (Mercedes Championships edition in "X" material
- BBX-81 (The super soft "X" material in another style)

All these models are currently worth more than I paid for them when I bought them brand new about 10 years ago. Most remain in new or "like new" conditon and are complete with the origianl Bettinardi headcovers. Its a very nice collection if I do say so myself. When I pass on, these will likely remain in the Family.

Very nice Bobcat. I am adoptable  !!! Truly a nice collection. Getting a BB-42, 1 of 3 Bettinardi is amazing. How'd you do it? You should post some pics of those babies.

I love the BB series and don't think that I will change from it.
I used to putt with a BB1F, however, when I saw that Bettinardi came out with their new counterbalance BB series, I instantly bought the BB32 Counterbalance and could not be happier with my decision. I never really liked the style of mallet putters, but there is something about the way that Bettinardi makes the mallet feel that makes me LOVE it. Gotta check it out!
