i have a set of titleist 735 cm irons that when i got fit they were bend 2 degrees flat but the guy recommend i needed them 4 degrees flat. he told me that with those clubs they couldnt do the 4 degrees. since the club length is standard could i take off some length and the lie angle would flatten out????? please help me out.. thanks

Yep. Will also reduce swing weight by shortening, which conversely goes up when bending flatter.

Rule of thumb is 1* for every 1/2".

Four seems like a lot....not saying he's wrong, but I may get a second opinion on that. JAT.

The club needs to fit you. Get the length correct FIRST, whatever it is....then adjust the lie. If it's four, then it's four...I don't recommend going 1" short just gain 2*. JMO.

i was told that 2 degrees was the max that those irons could be bent..

Approximately every 1/2 inch shortened will flatten 1 degree...

However...

It will "stiffen" shaft flex...

It will "decrease" swing weight...

Why don't you find someone to bend them "flatter" without reducing length?

I would ask around. I would imagine you can find someone who will tell you "no problem"...

They are forged, they will go more than 2....some guys are just protecting themselves from breaking a club. I get that. But these aren't cast clubs......

Go find another shop and ask them.

When you shorten a club there are two things to consider (beyond the flex and swingweight things):

You will either change your setup and swing to accomodate the shorter length to keep the same amount of toe-up at address

OR

The clubhead will be toe-down at address as you keep your original posture.

Don't change length when lie is the spec you want modified.
