PGM Schools

I'm a senior in high school in northwestern CT and over the last month or so I have been applying to PGM schools. I have only applied to the accredited schools in the country and those have been the 8. I won't get accepted into all of them most likely, but I am wondering which program is the best. I have heard good things about Coastal and MSU.

I did apply to both over the weekend. Hopefully I get into one my SAT scores are good but my GPA is a little lower than I would like.

I went to Mississippi State and had a great time. Played a lot of golf, made some great friends. When I went to MSU, there were only 4 PGM programs, so they've been doing a lot longer than some of the other schools you have listed.

P.S. I'm originally from CT, and there was some culture shock when I landed in Starkville. But it's a nice quiet town, and there have been many improvements since I graduated. Don't let the location scare you off.

Thanks I figured there will be culture change regardless of where I go. It really doesn't make a difference to me. My problem is my SAT schools are fine, but my GPA is low. I realize I don't have a great shot to get into schools like Methodist and Campbell. I applied to them anyone. I did apply to 10 places all PGM and that is what I want to do in life.

as a former Methodist Grad I want to tell you that going PGM is an outstanding opportunity. Whats important to you is that this is your decision, and you should pick the program that will best suit you. I liked Methodist for its location and small class sizes, plus I loved the staff. If you have the time I would really like for you to send me a pm about why you want to be in this business, and if you really like Methodist or Campbell, or whatever school you like the most, and I will give the school a personal reccomendation letter, I am good friends with the staff at Methodist and my director knows all the other department heads.

you are missing two of the BEST and two of the original three PGM schools, Penn State and Ferris State. Professionals at Augusta, Oakmont, Seminole, Shinnecock, The National Golf Links of America, Congressional and many many other great clubs are Penn State graduates. A disgrace that these schools were left out.

I don't have the grades for penn state and like I said you need the ACT for Ferris State

Campbell is the way to go. I am a senior in the program and if the golf industry is what you are wanting to get into it will prepare you like no other. Our business school is held in very high regards. Our program director has ran several highly succesful resorts as a GM and will provide great insight into the business side of things. Our assistant director is a great mentor and is highly versed in the fitness side of things in relation to golf. Our director of instruction works with PGA tour players and is as knowledgable as anyone in the country when it comes to teaching. Furthermore, in terms of competition, we have won the Jones Cup (the national competition between all the PGM schools) 2 of the 4 years I have been here. The other two years we finished second (by a stroke or two) and third. We also win the Carolinas Cup (competition between CU, Methodist, NC State, Clemson and Coastal) pretty much every year by a mile.

I did apply to Campbell I am yet to hear back from them, granted it has only been a couple of weeks. I have already been accepted into every school I have heard back from. Central Oklahoma, Methodist, Mississippi State, and Idaho, but I haven't heard back from any PGM programs.

I just graduated from the Coastal Carolina PGA PGM Program. If you want to succeed, it will be about YOU putting in the time and effort wherever you go. At Coastal, if you ask for help, they will give you all the tools you need.

 

Plus, with Will Mann, they are the only school with a past president of the PGA of America on staff. Did I mention he might have a couple connections in the industry?

That real cool that hes on staff. I hope I get accepted there I should be hearing back soon. I love the location of it right next to Myrtle. I heard the Campus is great and its a fun school.

Florida State also has a PGM program.
