they looked urban and athletic...
Yeah too bad this is the PGA not the NBA.
What does that even mean? They're both sports. I think it's cool to see some guys switching to these types of shoes. I like how they're not "classic" looking. Not everything has to be nostalgic in this game. It's 2011, not 1975. The times have changed and so has the fashion of shoes. If anything these are right with the times.

Tiger loooked crisp and precise with his shots, which was very different. He did not have many ill advised shots, which I believe turned out to be the biggest difference. His putting was significantly better too and I don't know about you all, but this guy look like he has been spending quite a bit of time in the gym on his upperbody. He looked like he has put on some mass and gotten physically stronger. It may be a litte too early to say "Tiger is back," but I would say he is well on his way to being back.

His bad shots were short irons delofted to much. Hittin em too good. Maybe his PW needs to be 52* instead of 50*

I will be the first person to kick Tiger when he is down, yes I am a hater. BUT

IMO he looked really good yesterday. He looked VERY comfortable with his swing. The past few years, you could tell he was always forcing something to change or fit. He didn't look like that at all yesterday. The short game is solid, and he putted pretty well. Not much fell, but he was all over the hole with good rolls. I was pretty impressed. And he still has some massive yardage, on 16 (I think), he hit a 3 iron 235 with a choke-down cut. But he wasn't exerting himself.

If he keeps this up and gets dialed in, I smell another 2000 (maybe not quite as good, but a very sick year in the near future).

Even though I hate him, it is good to see him back.

Last thought. He looked pretty stupid with a sweaty a**, a chode-beard and the white shoes. But hey, he can do what he wants.

Hate? Really? Do you know him personally? He wronged you directly? I hope you're just exaggerating...

he looked pretty good overall, but his -2 could easily have been +1 based on his greens in regulation and the several long putts he was fortunate enough to make.

IMO, a golfer with soft sole shoes, is asking for foot problems, the swing puts a lot of torque on the bones of feet, that's what I would be concerned about as a pro. But you know, if he's comfortable with the shoes, I have no problem with them. I wear traditional foot joys, because they feel pretty good to me, and they offer some structural support on the turf, so that's what works for me, but if those worked, I'd use them. But my feet need the support, maybe his don't.

Darren Clark could have been at +9 if he didnt hole out from the fairway.

Adam Scott could have been at -4 if he wasn't dropping bombs from 40 feet.

I could have been a pro golfer if I didn't suck.

Even I have Drifit pants that are pretty light, breathable, and comfy, and I had to buy them from the store. Surely Nike can hook Tiger up with some? Sheesh

Triple Bogey Blues, ha, right, I get that, but I stand by my point that his-2 could have just as easily been plus 1 with 3 missed very long putts. I know if if's and butts and all that, but those are facts, and to make 2 LONG par saving putts, was fortunate. Lucky, I won't call it, as he is a good putter, but fortunate anyway.

Looks like Tiger missed a short par putt. He's hitting his driver long (314, 308) and his short game looks good (a few chips and pitch es to within 3 feet already). I guess the short miss makes up for one of the bombs he holed yesterday.

7ft for birdie on 15...bounce back?
Actually he had 7 feet for par. And missed, putting him back at even. Even the pros can't rely on short game and putting for too long. He's still got both par 5s but he needs to put the ball in the fairway and hit some iron shots close.

Is PGA Tour Shot Tracker messing up for anyone else? It's acting really weird. I'm watching Tiger and it keeps switching what he does. For instance, it will sometimes say he drove the fairway, but then change to say he is in a fairway bunker. Then, it will say his second shot went to say, 6 feet from the pin, but then it will update to say that his second shot was really off the green, and his 3rd shot was what was 6 feet from the pin.

I'm having a very hard time figuring out what's up, although it looks like he bogied again. Damn.

I'm having loading issues too. You can follow the live blog on golf.com and verify what shot tracker is saying. The blog guy says his info is limited until noon when some sort of live coverage begins?

Tiger with a 315 yard tee shot to the fairway on 16. Not sure is shot tracker's scale is correct, but if so those right fairway bunkers are not really in play and should be moved back to 300 off the tee.

Agree.. Tiger is back.. as a middle of the pack golfer. He played really well and managed to be 6 shots off the lead (to Adam Scott, no less).. t22. Same score as Bo Van Pelt, who nobody is talking about. Let's see who finishes higher.. Tiger or Bo Van Pelt..

He hasn't played in 4 months and he shoots a 68 yesterday.. I think he's fine. Call him middle of the pack if you will but he's not done.

You can't really make a meaningful definitive statement like this after a single round. Shooting a middle-of-the-pack first round is what Tiger often did when he was dominating the game, so your point actually leads to the conclusion that he is all the way back. His swing looked good and he made some serious up and downs and a long birdie putt, great. He can still golf. But we won't really know anything about the state of his game and ability to win until he's in contention on a Sunday afternoon.

If ST is right ...
Story of our day.

Looks like he hit iron off 17 tee (230 yards to fairway, leaving 175). IIRC he hit an easy 6 on one of the par 3s on the front yesterday about that distance; hit this one to 6 feet and made birdie to get back to 2-under.
