Aldila VS Proto

Recommended Posts

Question for the experienced. I am currently playing a Sumo2 4 wood with a stock 65g Diamana stiff shaft. I don't like what I percieve as a super high ball flight and the shaft feels a little whippy and soft to me. I play the stiff VS proto 65 in my driver and love the flight I see. I'm anticipating a lower flight with the VS proto 70 stiff and am wondering if that is a reasonable assumption.

Can anyone compare the VS Proto 80 to the Graffaloy Blue shaft? I can get a FT-5 with the Proto & have never hit the shaft. I've hit the Blue in a Launcher 460 & would like to know how they compare.

I played a Grafalloy Blue in my previous driver and have recently switched to a Ping Rapture with the VS Proto 65. I like both shafts for their low spin and trajectory. I found the Grafalloy Blue to have a little stiffer feel than the VS Proto. I have an agressive swing and tend to be more of a hitter than a swinger, and I think for me the Grafalloy Blue was a better fit. If you are a smooth swinger, I thing the VS Proto is a great shaft. I am happy with it in my new driver, but to be honest, I find myself wanting the feel of my Grafalloy Blue shaft. Maybe its just because I played my other Driver for so long that it is what I am used to.

I am also playing the VS Proto 85 in my 3 and 5 Woods, and am very happy with them. They have a great boring trajectory.

I'm looking to pick up a 906F4 and one of the ones i'm watching has a Proto By You 80 shaft in stiff - my swing is pretty quick so normally go for a stiff shaft but i'm a bit concerned that with the bore through making the shaft play stiffer and the heavier shaft this would produce a very low trajectory.

I'm looking for a three wood that's fairly easy to get off the deck (without ballooning) so the shaft giving a low launch wouldn't really be ideal - would this shaft be one to avoid in this instance? Would the YS6+ probably be more suitable?

I am looking for a fairway 3 wood, whether 909 f2 15.5° or cobra baffler rail f 15.5°. I got offered a 909 f2 with an aftermarket VS Proto 80 Stiff shaft. My SS is 95-103 mph. I am little more of a hitter than a swinger...

So now I need your help. Do you think I can get happy with an VS Proto 80S ? Or is it too stiff for me? Looking for a mid traj. ballflight. Do you think the ball will stay on the green when attacked or roll over?

Thank you!!

Well, that shaft will give you the flight you need. However it will be more tip stiff. If you currently use stiff shafts, you should be used to it. If you're using regular flex shafts or have issues getting the ball in the air, you might want to lean towards a reg flex and a slightly softer tip.

I have a smooth swing with swing speed around 95 Mph. I put the VS proto 70 on Callaway FT-9 11 degree head.

The first time I played with this shaft, 7 out of 7 tee shots were in the fairway. This shaft is very accurate. It is a must have if you have problem with accuracy with your driver.

The ball flight is also penetrating and low spinning. I remember teeing off the first time and I saw my ball flew like a low launching bullet. The head could be the factor of this penetrating flight, but the combo sure works.

Overall, it is a pretty good shaft. I rated it 4/5 stars. The cost is little bit too high but it's sure paid off.
