MP-30 Irons

The MP-30 features a classic head design for players seeking a half-cavity for playability and the maneuverability of a forged muscle back. The MP-30 offers golfers a clean look at address with a traditional top line, cambered sole, and cosmetics emblematic of Mizuno's legendary MP line of irons. Already making an impact on the PGA Tour, the MP-30 is an instant classic.

Well, I took the plunge and purchased a set of these, and all I have to say is...

WOW!

They are actually pretty forgiving considering they're a player's cavityback, the distance is outstanding, feel is simply amazing.

I really have to say I'm impressed with these, so much so that I bought the MP-T Series 51* gap wedge to go with them, and dammit if that isn't going to kick my Cleveland Sand wedge out and now I'm buying a MP-T Series 56*.

None the less, amazing irons.

Absolutely agree with the two prior posts, these are some of the best "do it all clubs" around. I am also on my 2nd set and continue to play these over a set of MP 32's which are more demanding.

Workable, soft and long. Better than the MP60's which replaced these, IMHO.

Excellent stuff with DG or Nippon shafts.

Mizuno=Excellence. These are nothing less than that... As forgiving and workable as you can ask from a player's cb. Plus they look good.

They still have luster in many bags, just not mine... I can't get rid of these darn i3 Blades!

Great club, I have hit mine on the range side by side with most of he current Mizuno line up. The MP-60 and MP-57 are a little more forgiving ( and by little I mean Little) with the CG more toward the toe. The MP-30 is a lower launch head compared to the 60 and 57. The club does not get much love with the new stuff that has come out since it's release. IMO still an excellent stick and a great value compared to the price of new Mizuno products. Just my opinion.

Ok I now have these in my bag and I will tell you, I wish they were in my bag a few years ago. I was playing Titleist 731's and I thought those were nice. Hands down the MP-30 are more forgiving. I also believe the myth of these being a low ball flight iron is not all together true. 1st thing after hitting many balls was that I was suprised how high my ball flight was without losing distance. They are buttery smooth for being a players CB and still have a great topline view from a guy who has played blades. I have avoided Mizuno for Titleist for a long time and I have learned from my mistakes. Titleist's are great clubs but I lose nothing making the switch.

Just got a set of MP30 3-6 iron and MP32 7-pw. The set is absolutely gorgeous! I have Rifle 6.5 shafts in them. The ball flight of the MP30 is boring, no balloning at all. Smallish club face with little offset. Very pleasing to look at behind the ball. If you have trouble getting the ball in the air, these are not for you. I came from Hogan Apex Edge Pro, and the Pros are more forgiving but less workable. The MP30's are a great iron if you have the game to hit them. I am not saying they are blade like but they are not going to help you a great deal either. Overall 4.5 /5 stars.

It's funny, I was looking at a replacing my DG S300's with the Rifle 6.5's, I notice that with the s300's the ball's just ballooning, and I was reading that the Proj. X 6.5's would definately bring the flight down and make it more penetrating ball flight..

Haven't tried them with S300, but I would assume ball flight would be higher with S300. I am a high ball hitter and with the Rifles I don't have that problem at all. I have read that the MP30's are a lower flying iron anyway.

From Mizuno's European website (and saved by myself to check the specs every now and then.

Mizuno MP-30 lofts/lies/lengths from Mizuno.com

Submitted By: D. Remmers

Handicap: 5

Golf Club: GC de Dommel

Question:

What are the lofts of my MP-30 irons?

Answer:

The spec of MP-30 irons by loft/lie/length is as follows : #2 18*/57.5*/39.25" -- #3 21*/58*/38.75" -- #4 24*/58.5*/38.25" -- #5 27*/59*/37.75" -- #6 31*/60*/37.25" -- #7 35*/61*/36.75" -- #8 39*/62*/36.25" -- #9 43*/62.5*/35.75" -- #PW 47*/63*/35.5"

These irons have not received much hoop la over the years. This is good becuase you can pick up a set inexpensively.

I have a full set (3-PW) with Flighted Rifles. My long & mid irons are boring but I can still hold greens. I find the trajectory on my short irons (7-PW) to be a little high but i'm not complaining (which is odd for flighted?). Overall, it's the feel that won me over. I think these look so much better than the 57 & 67 which come off hefty and the short irons are too rounded for me. The MP 30's retain a more classic blade look throughout the set.

As an experiment, i bought a 5 iron on ebay with DGS300 and found the trajectory to be higher. So the rifles are the way to go.

I just don't understand why this iron does not get the props. It is by far the best I've ever played.I have played every iron thats popular x tour,mp-32,fuzion ,x20 tour,x20's,,r7 TP,Tour Burner(little offset),AP2's,LT2's

and none of them are even close.I need to go get a back up set,I 'm afraid they might be hard to get in the future.

i looooove these things, is it just me or does the MP-62 have the same design principals?

Yeah I have the 30s as well I love the low traj and they're not any less forgiving than the 60s I've owned. I actually think the 30s feel more solid. When I first saw the 62s I thought "well they can;t make a better club than the 30s so they just slightly re-designed it" Others have mentioned the same thing.

This is an update to my earlier post but I'm wondering if any of you experience any distance issues. On more than one occasion during a round I find myself 10-15 yards longer than my normal iron shot. I notice this on the range but I attributed it to range balls but I'm seeing this more often on the course. I ask because I was talking to a low handicapper who played the MP30's and told me he got rid of them because of this - however he liked the clubs. Of course he is playing the new MP62.

Here's some feedback, but don't have a reason for the longer distance. I hit both the MP67's and the MP62's recently, on two different occasions. (with DGS300's, and I use X100's in 57's) Obviously the 62's were more forgiving and they also had a little higher ball flight. On the periodic shot with the 67 when I hit it dead on, they felt incredible, had great ball flight (little flatter) but nothing materially different on distance. Mishits, lost distance compared to 62's not hit well.

I've read the 62's look like redone 30's. I have a set of 30's that I stumbled upon and going to have Joe K. reshaft them so was curious and wanted to try the 62's first. I also called Mizuno and per the rep, the 62's have a lower COG than the 30's. I didn't hit the MP30 I have, but did hit my 32's in comparison. All felt really good, but would probably do a combo set of 62's and 67's if going that route. Going the 30 route with Joe.

Thanks for the reply. I'd be insterested to find out what shafts Joe recommends for your MP30's so I hope you're willing to share (and perhaps provide some info on your swingspeed). As I mentioned in my original post I found the short irons to hit the ball higher. Strange since you mentioned the MP 30's have a higher COG than the newer clubs. I'm really inclined to reshaft my 8,9, PW with DG S400 or X100's but didn't want to mess around with anything.

I've not had any issues regarding inconsistent length with the 30's, in fact i've found that predictable distance is one of the major plusses of using them. I'd be surprised if the heads themselves would be the cause of your issue, perhaps something else.

I used mx950 for a while and my distances on similar swings would differ wildly, i guessed that was either the hollow design or superlite shaft being too soft. No such issues wuth the mp30 + dgs300 at all.

Just got a used set of these with Rifle 5.5 shafts. I have been hitting the original Nike Slingshots with reg. flex shafts and decided that I should but some nicer irons. So, I went to the range after a round today and brought the new clubs to hit. I normally carry my 6 iron about 150-- with the mp-30s, I was carrying my 6 iron to the 170-175 sign every shot.

I was (and am) really amazed. Every club (I only brought the 6-PW) was easily 1 or 2+ clubs longer than normal for me. I'm thinking that the shafts were the key, here. I think I needed a stiffer shaft as I have a very quick transition. Anyway, I love the clubs. The only thing that sucks is when I don't hit it on the sweet spot, the shots are MUCH shorter than with my Slingshots.

I've had these in my bag since 2003 and love them as much today as as 10 years ago. Recently I have been looking to replace them because I'm past the point of resharpening the grooves.

Spent some time on the launch monitor this week hitting the MP64, MP59, and MP69 against my MP30's and found out that not much has improved since the 30's. Launch angle and smash were all around the same (taking into consideration all new Mizuno's are stronger lofts) 69's and 64's have lower ball flight and still good smash for my swing. (90mph 5 iron).

Overall, I would say the MP30 plays really close to the MP64. Feel wise the 30 feels a touch harsher on toe hits.
