New Driver on the market

I am hearing a lot of rumblings that this Taylor Made R5 tour is the latest and greatest.

 

R7 but bigger and more forgiving.

 

Come out come out and give us a review.

Not for me, but different strokes for different folks.....the dual weight makies it simpler, but I like the deeperface of the R7!

I for one would be interested in trying one of these - just need to get something with a higher loft, currently play a 10.5 510 TP Tour... so I reckon I'll need at least a 9.5 for the R5 TP.

The R5 looks good but my driving confidence is at its all time high with a 9.5* R7DF Diamana 63x5ct.

 

Dang....no more reasons to HO drivers :lol:

Well since the only available model is the tour version of the r5 dual TP... 335 hosel. But as you might know, a handful of tour equipment is always available at .350 for TOUR players that prefers the .350 tip like jerry kelly.

Can anyone make a comparison to other BIG heads out there... namely Comp Tour and Ignite tour.. how does this one stack up???

Say what you want about TM but they provide the goods for all types of players especially in the driver catagory.

True true; but a new product every 8 months is going to be the death of them. How many people paid $400 18 months ago for an original 510, 540, or 580...$450 with a good shaft...only to see 'em going for $50 on flebay??

 

Most non-ho's change their driver every other year or so, I'm sure they love to find out that their resale/trade value is worth less than a doxen prov's.

 

Ho's have a hard time keeping up with all teir stuff. I got my R7TP before anyone, there's three newer models since then (more if you include tour stuff).

 

I don't know about them, I hate their business model.

I had a chance to hit an 8.5* with a Mitsu shaft. I thought it was awesome. I liked it much better than the R7 . looks a lot like a 580XD to me. Much more solid than the R7. I was on a range so I can't comment on distance. I'd grab one in a heartbeat if the price was a little less.

I must admit that I am no more excited about this club coming out than any blockbuster movie that will be for rent months down the road.

 

I play a 300 tour and started playing that AFTER a tour 510 DF TP. I did not notice a distance lost when I went to my 300 tour. Sure the forgivness was a little better with the 510 but I could not do to the golf ball what I can with the 300 tour. I enjoy the R7 simply for the benefit of ball flight control, but it is not so substantial that I feel the need to move away from my ultra neutral 300 tour. I also did not notice much/if any more distance w/ the R7 over the 300 tour (A DIFFERENCE OF 2 GENERAIONS OF "TECHNOLOGY"). I will admit that the technology advancments of the customized weight ports excites me. I do not think that there are distance advantages between a correctly configured 300 tour over a R7/R510TP/Titleist XYZ/ClevelandXYZ/MIZZY ABCD.

 

To each their own, I will eventually test the R5dual but I do not expect it to require me to run away from my current set up. All I can say is MARKETING, MARKETING, MARKETING (This includes OEM's, retailers, and anyone else who can gain a $ from creating demand for a product. Just my 2 cents (long live musclebacks and the 300 tour (360cc's is perfect))

Hey Guys...I'm seriously considering going with a new TM driver...I play a BLADE X460 with speeder 952 now. I like the idea of the weight movement on the R7, but also like the bigger size on the R5...I should probably wait until the 460 cc R7 comes out (which it will eventually)...and will probably be called R9 Octo with 8 weight ports and 2,000,000 different set-up options!

ken, it is sopposed to be .335 tip dia but ive got a few raw heads sitting here that i havent shafted & a diamana shaft is lose but a 350 tip shaft is too tight. the GD J08 shaft that i had installed in my old r5 dual TP that i sold you was sanded down a bit to get a nice snug fit. i asked my TM rep about this & he had told me the tip dia is .335 but may be a tad larger for whatever reason :lol:
