Tiger Hitting A "sissy" Club ......

No More Chicken Stick 2-Iron .....
Here's an interesting article on Tiger regarding a new club he may add to his bag ..... Tiger Article <stroll to bottom to find article>

EQUIPMENT CHECK

It was strange to see an extra fairway metal in Tiger Woods' bag during a practice round at Firestone last month -- a 7-wood, no less. Whether it gets into a tournament remains to be seen.

Woods said the difference between how far he hits his 2-iron and his 3-wood can be as much as 30 yards, the largest gap in his bag. He probably could have used another fairway metal at the PGA Championship, especially on Saturday when he tried to take something off a 3-wood for his second shot into the 650-yard 17th.

``I've asked Rick Nichols at Nike to see what I can do to bridge the gap, to maybe put a 5-wood or 7-wood in the bag,'' Woods said. ``But I have a problem with having to be able to flight the golf ball with those clubs.''

He laughed as soon as he made contact with the 7-wood at Firestone because the ball had just a high trajectory.

``I love hitting my 2-iron off tees and hitting it down there low and controlling it,'' he said. ``Then again, sometimes I'm having a hard time into the par 5 of throwing the ball in the air.''

He noted that Vijay Singh carried a 7-wood that was bent to work like a 5-wood. Still, it sounded as though Woods would keep the same 14 clubs for a while.

``I have a hard time with that club now,'' he said

I've had a 7-wood in the bag for over 3 months now and it's become my favorite club. It was the last alternative because I hate 3 irons and I hate hybrids. Thankfully I found something that works.

Obviously Tiger is doing fine with his setup now, but I think he'd be better off using something like a 7 wood to fill that gap in. Having a 30 yard gap between clubs is HUGE and needs to be addressed.

go and look at the specs of a modern 2 iron to that of the 1 iron jack use to use, and you'll see they are roughly the same club (loft and length wise).

earlier this year i was struggeling with my 5 wood (nike t-40 w/ rifle 6.0) and picked up a matching 2 iron for my set (nike pro combo w/ rifle 6.0) and a nike pro combo utility iron 18* and 20*. now, i've found my swing agian with the 5, but also was pretty succesful with the 2 iron, but found the 18* utility to be perfect. i can vary it in my stance to control whether it is low or high. i can shape it real well. i can get it to roll on fairways, but 2 bounce on greens. its been a great club for me. use it on short par 4's all the time. its easy to hit down on like an iron for spin, but easy to sweep for roll. highly recommend. i think it and the cleveland ldi are the same, but went with the nike because i'm a nike ho and got a better deal on it.

Who would think Tiger .....

-- would be playing a 460cc driver,

-- drop his ole' faithful Titleist PT/970 fairway wood

-- and possibly drop his 2-iron for a 7 wood

What's next? Switching from blades to cavity-backs :clapping:

Just goes to show us that Tiger is more interested in winning than bag stylin'. :clapping:
