how come you don't see more people playing this ball?? every review i read, it says that's it is a great ball....the only mid-priced ball with an urethane cover...... for you e5 users, what would you compare it to? i currently use the penta.. but i'm looking for something with more distance, yet able to maintain greenside control... tried the b330-s and hated it... nxt tour felt like a rock..... thanks!!!

I tried the E5 a few years ago when they first came out and found them a bit shorter than Prov1, B330S and others. They had a noticibly different feel than the typical 3-piece urethane ball too. They did have decent check around the green but I gave up on them. They are a decent price however, but with so many of last years balls on sale now there seems to be is a limited market for the E5. Plus I never felt Bridgestone really advertised this ball enough.

They cost the same as the much better e6 and e7. Pass.

The E5 spins more than any non-urethane ball, so comparing it to anything short of the top tier balls is pointless. Spin-wise, it compares to the RX. Those two are among the lower spinning urethanes available. It launches high, as others have said, but it is a higher compression ball (somewhere in between the ProV1 and 1x, I think), so it is possible swing speed was an issue if there was distance loss. I found it to be plenty long, but my ss is around 108. It is not unlike the TaylorMade Tp Black, although that ball is even higher compression and spins slightly more.

Good question, I guess. It compares to a lot of different balls in certain ways, but is fairly unique in the mix of qualities it has.

I've only played 1 dozen of these balls, so I certainly can't claim to be an expert...FWIW I usually play the b330-rx (I don't know my actual swing speed but figure it's in the low 100's - I probably avreage 250-260 with "big drives" in the 280 -290 range). The distance is roughly the same for me and the launch angle/ball flight is NOT and issue. That being said, I tend to have a lower natural ball flight than average. The place the E5 excelled imo is around the greens - it acts like a ball with a urethane cover (duh!) ie. it BITES ! For $26.00 a dozen it's a bargain. My only gripe is that the Sports Authority closest to my house doesn't carry them...:russian_roulette:

I've been playing the E5 exclusively since my local Roger Dunn started blowing out the 2010 version for $14.99 a dozen...I buy 2 dozen every time I walk into the store.

The E5 is perfect for my game. I'm a mid handicap, mid 40's, weekend golfer with a low ball flight who is looking for a bit more distance off the tee but I want a ball with a urethane cover for good greenside performance.

I was playing the Penta and ZStar (and I still like both of these balls) but I've come to the conclusion that the E5 is the better choice for me (especially for $14.99 dz).

The E5 is firmer than the Penta and ZStar and spins slightly less...BUT, I get a few extra yards on my drives and it is good around the greens, and I like the feel of the E5 with the putter. The higher ballflight from the E5 is what I like the best about the ball. My swingspeed is in the mid 90's so I'm not ballooning shots like some of the other guys here on golfWRX :)

I've tried many other non-premium balls but their non-urethane covers make them unplayable (or at least undesirable) from inside 100yds for me.

Bringing this thread BTT because their online decision system recd's this ball in just about every manner I enter the data (my worst day of golf, my best day, average).

Is there a "description" for the ideal e5 player?

What I want: cheaper, higher spin on approach and chips, as much distance as I can get, but still prefer spin if I have to choose between conflicting inputs.

It's been a couple years since I used the older E5 but at least that version covers your stated objectives. At least worth a try. Spins a ton on full swings with any club. Spins more than most two-piece balls on partial swings but less than some of the really high-spin Tour balls. I found the distance quite adequate (with my low clubhead speed) but couldn't live with the sidespin results. And it flies very high, as advertised.

To say the E6 or E7 are "much" better balls? Guess if you like a soft feeling ball with no spin that's horrible around the green the E6 & 7 are the better balls.

I have no problem holding greens and around the green with the E7's!

I have played it and found it to fly very high off the driver, my favorite ball is the Nike one tour but I can't get those any more.. :(

I play the e line from bridgestone a lot. I love all of them. The e6 is best I think, the e5 is a close second though. Hey I have a bunch of new One Tour D's if you wanna buy... not soliciting just tryin to help out.

I'm a little confused...

Some people say "it goes really high", others say "short on drivers"

But I think that it is because there are some different versions. Core compression has been softer now. Dual dimple is back and it lowered driver launching angle for me.

What is your experience with newer version with dual dimple and "distance & control" on green box?

I have to agree with Desert Golf.
Most of his reason are the same reasons that I play the E5... utmost being the height I get on the ball..
Am I still trying to figure out the greenside spin from the Penta I used to play??
YEs..but I am also doing it from 1 club shorter length...

Don't know about the current version but I used the previous one for a quite a while. Man that thing spins on full shots. Not so much on little half wedges and stuff, although it still spins enough for me, but take a full swing at a teed-up E5 on a Par 3 with something like a 6-iron or 7-iron and it can literally suck right back off the green. So I'd say it's a good ball for someone who wants as much spin (on full swings) as any ball out there and at an affordable price.

It also spins a lot off a driver so you can get some upshooters and hooks/slices will be pretty major. I thought it was a real hard-feeling ball and certainly not the longest ball I ever played. But for a player who wants spin, it gives you spin.

Is the current generation less spinny or more spinny than the one from circa 2009?

I love the E5

After reading the other posts it just goes to show why they make so many different ball configurations.

For me the E5 has a mid/high flight, longer for me than anything else I have tried except the E6 (which has 0 greenside spin).
