So Jason, a not so serious question but one that I just had to ask, what type of music do you listen too?

Tim
EVERYTHING!! I listen to everything from Steel Panther to Barry Manilow (yep, I just admitted that). I am kind of a music idiot and audiophile all at the same time. I have a bunch of guitars, a drum kit, and a piano. I love it all!!!!

Hi Jason,

Firstly, congratulations on the separation with Cobra / Puma Golf. It must be a relief to not have to be grouped with Troy Bolton off High School Musical, sorry..I mean Ricky Fowler.

I believe the prerequisites to be a part of their sponsorship is goofy pants (Poulter) and boy band bangs (Fowler).

Any preferences as of yet to what manufacturer you would like to be sponsored by based on your personal testing?

Why the white gorilla headcover?

You can easily see your love of the game on your face when your play is televised. Easy to be a fan of yours.

All the best in 2012.

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. What is the "best" shot you have ever hit? (in or out of competition)
I would have to say the last putt at the 84 Lumber Classic. The 75+/- footer that I had to two putt to win. I knocked to about 15 inches. It was awesome! The crowd screaming. Me yelling at my caddy Lewis, "how do you like them f..... apples!" It was great!

Sweet, I have 5 children and 3 of them are musicians. I use to sing in a band as well. I'm surprised you didn't mention Air Supply! LOL

Jason:

What are your thoughts on hybrids vs. long irons vs. fairway woods? As you know that's a topic that gets a lot of debate on these forums.
I was just thinking about this recently too. I carry a hybrid in my bag right now. But, if I could find a good 2 iron again, I would not hesitate to put it back in the bag. I really miss hitting those low bullets on short par 4's. I just can't really do it with a hybrid. It does what it is supposed to do, get up in the air and come down soft. I really miss that "stinger". Heck, I grew up a Davis Love III fan. I carried a Ping Eye 2 one iron thru L wedge, a driver and a putter! Didn't even carry a 3 wood!

Hi Jason,

I know you can't reveal the brand, but for your new iron selection, are you leaning more towards a blade or more towards a GI iron? I know your Cobra set transitioned from basically a blade to a cavity back.

Also, have you narrowed it down on iron shafts? Are you able to reveal the iron shaft brand? And (lastly) relative to your swing speed, do you prefer a stiffer shaft or softer shaft?

Thanks for taking the time and best of luck in 2012!!!!

Hey Jason,

Thanks for spending a few minutes on WRX!

What is your pre-round routine? Also, how do you control your on-course nerves? Any secrets to pass along?

Big Fan! Good Luck in "12!

- Matt
Hey Matt-

My pre-round routine is for warming up. Not for practice! I try to just get loose and see what the ball is doing. If it's cutting, guess what, I'm going to cut it that day. If I have an afternoon tee time and I want to work on something, I'll go out there early, practice, then, go in the clubhouse, have some lunch or whatever, and then go about my warm-up.

To control your nerves on the course, you have to remember that your golf ball doesn't have nerves. It doesn't even know who is hitting it! And, that each shot counts as one! The opening tee shot in the first round means just as much as the chip on 14 the second round and the final putt on Sunday. Every shot counts as one. Give EVERY shot the same attention. They all matter! That should help you control whatever nerves you are feeling. Know that you are giving every shot your complete attention and focus. You won't have any time to feel any extra nerves.

I can answer all those!!! I'm leaning toward a muscle back iron. I did add a little offset into them. Not for any particular reason. I just grew up playing Pings and my Top Flight irons from college had offset in them, and I thought, why not!? I'm going to play True Temper Dynamic Gold X-100 Tour issue. They are just a great, proven shaft. Can't go wrong. In the past, I've always played an DG S-400, X-1's aren't hugely different to me. I like to play a lot of little shots, especially in my short irons. So, being able to feel the club a little more is important to me.

And thanks for your well wishes!

Hey buddy! I answered this question a little earlier.... But, just have fun! Remember, its still a game! And a great one at that!! Good luck!!!

Jason, what do you do on the days leading up to a tournament, Monday-Wednesday?
Usually, Monday is a travel day, so that day is kinda shot. Tuesday is usually a practice round day if I'm not playing in the pro-am Wednesday. If I am playing in the pro-am, I play 9 holes on Tuesday just to get a feel of the course and/or conditions (green speed, rough, etc.) Depending on how long I've been on the road is how long I'm out there practicing. I've done this way too many times. I'll go out there and beat my brains in Monday-Wednesday, and then the tournament rolls around and I'm mentally beat up! Can't do that anymore! Too old for that .......

Who's your favorite practice round partner (from any of the tours - PGA, Champions, Nationwide)? Any money games?

I'm really good friends with Pat Perez. We grew up playing in So Cal together so, we've known each other for a long time. You couldn't find two more opposite people than him and I. He's rather, um, high strung. And me, not so much. But together, we both turn into a couple of morons, and I mean that in a good way. One year at Congressional for Tiger's event, we were hitting balls at Steve Sands while he was on the air broadcasting. Not the brightest of things, but we thought it was funny at the time. We weren't trying to hit him, but make a large racket off the canopy he was standing under. We were basically wondering if he would say something bad on the air. Yep, two morons! :)

Hey Jason,
Just throwing this out there, but I were to guess on which OEM you will go with for 2012 I'd say , Bridgestone! They are similar when it comes to their irons. I could see you playing those same blades Davis love 3 is playing even with some of those pocket cavities. Just a guess. Have you tried this OEM's irons?

Thanks, Tim

They aren't Bridgestone. But they do make a really pretty iron from what I've seen!!!

Did Carson Daly have enough game to play on a professional tour if that is where his focus remained?
Carson is an extremely talented player. And he loves the game. Yes, I think he could of, but, he's where he's supposed to be. He is making a hell of a lot more money doing what he's doing now than most of us lowly professional golfers. I'd trade with him! LOL

Jason what is your take on belly putters?

Cheers
Okay... one more.... I've said in the past I thought its cheating. But, if the R&A and USGA doesn't think so, well who am I to argue! For some people they obviously work! I'm seriously considering trying one now that my belly putter won't be 35 inches long! LOL
