assuming you use the alignment line on the greens, what happens if you get over the putt and the line is off? do you stop and re-adjust, or just hit the putt without worrying that the line is perfect?
I always just use the line as a point of reference when lining up putts. Its not the end-all for me when lining up a putt. When i get over it whatever i see or feel is what I trust and go with so sometimes i might give it a little more or less break.

Hi Steve

Fellow Lefty here aswell, was rooting for you during the 2008 Masters. Was hoping for a 3rd southpaw win there!

Anyway, you had a couple of good finishes there and then a high finish at Oakland Hills too. Is there something about insane greens that appeals to you?
I think I have a great imagination on fast, undulating greens and tend to play and putt well at venues that have those features.

Steve, thanks for being here for us gear heads.

What makes the biggest influence for equipment endorsement deals on Tour. The reps and techs you work with, the technology, the looks and comfort with a brand, the money?? Or something else completely?

Success in 2012!!
hands down, performance of the equipment. you could sign the best deal in the world but if you dont play well with the clubs/ball, it doesnt matter. you'll be sending resumes all around the very next year! gotta play what works BEST for you, period. you can make way more money on the course than off the course..

Jermone,

How many clubs do you think you have given away or 'discarded' for misbehaving following a tournament round of golf?
Probably have given away a few more than the next guy....hahaha. Only because I feel the random spectator might benefit more from them than I was at the time! I also always try to give them to kids.
I remember reading the story about you giving away your irons and wedges with the old grooves to a lefty after the last tournament of 2009. Thanks for answering my question, good luck in 2012!

Steve,

Who is the longest tour player you have played with relative to his era? In other words, not just absolute distance (obviously now guys are longer than before) but in comparison to the other guys around him. I just remember when Tiger first got on tour, seeing him at Colonial and it seemed like he was a lot longer than everyone around him.
Tiger Woods, pre- 2001 when we still had the wound ball, bar NONE. It was silly long. The modern, solid core ball has made all high speed, high launch guys significantly longer. Whereas medium speed, mid launch guys havent seen the big distance gains....(such as me!)

Steve, which tournament venue is your favorite out there and why? Always been curious as to how different players respond to that question.
Riviera because it requires all facets of the game. Guys will pick their favorite events based on the golf course first and foremost. it has nothing to do with the purse size or city its played in.

Thanks. Just curious to see how many say the historic venues such as Augusta, St. Andrews, etc versus those that say the not as historic because they like the venue better or the mystique of the older courses. Again, thanks for your time and good luck this season

Hi Steve! Do you see the PGA tour ever allowing appearance fees? Looks like it works very well for the European tour and it might be a way to bring in a few 'name' players in some of the not so high profile tournaments on tour. Thanks.

I gave that set away because the groove rule took effect starting in 2010 and those irons were illegal

Steve... Thanks so much for coming on here and saying hi and answering all these questions. Where else can normal Joes like us get so close to the top level of the game. We can goe from here to watching TV and say... hey I talked to him.

Lastly.. Did you ask me at the Buick in Michigan one year about my camera? I was shooting at the range as I did I think you did.

Richard :)

I imagine you have an 8 club deal with Cleveland...I was wondering with all of the "WHITE" drivers out there...Are players ALL being paid "tee it up" money for the driver? Or is it just that much better as far as a Pro point of view? I LOVE CLEVELAND and TAYLOR MADE..I am just wondering if they pay everyone that is hitting one?

The appearance fee proposition is a very slippery slope and one that I believe Commissioner Finchem has handled very well. The PGA Tour is the most difficult place in the World to compete and certainly doesn't need to pay players to come. ALL the best players strive to play our events because its the true Tour to showcase your talent.
Having said that, the European Tour is pretty strong at the top, but gets thin in World strength relative to the US tour which is ridiculously strong top to bottom. I would even venture to say that the Nationwide Tour is as strong as the Euro Tour from the 30th man down.
If the European Tour didn't pay the Big guys to come their tour would lose a lot of it's big names because their purses aren't as big. Why would Westwood, Kaymer, Harrington, and the like give up huge appearance fees in the 6 digits to play over here where nothing is guaranteed? Look at how much Tiger is getting ti go to Dubai in a few weeks....no appearance money at Torrey Pines!!!!
