Are you planning on having the custom series shafts available through any of the big four (Titleist, Nike, Callaway, TM) for direct custom orders? Thank you to KBS and Golfwrx.

Hi JP,

Thanks for the question. Right now the Custom Series will only be available in the aftermarket. There is a possibility in the future we may offer these new finishes to OEMs and we have discussed this with their custom departments. However, this is a great way to customize your set and we want to keep in the aftermarket.

What was the process of these finishes being decided? Will KBS be coming out with more colors? Were there any focus groups or feedback from players involved? Thanks!
Topspin2,

R&D for these finishes have been in the works for the last two years in partnership with Color Design International (Carlsbad, CA). Over that time, we've sampled a variety of options (color, finish, artwork) all surrounding the color themes you see in the final product today.

We settled on the Black Pearl, White Pearl, and Silver Pearl because we believed them to be 'neutral' colors and better fit to combine with popular grip and head designs.

We may in the future decide to conclude some colors and introduce some new colors and finish options yes. There are a few directions we're discussing but the jist is this program is very versatile. Any and all feedback is appreciated.

We did focus groups with some of our leading dealers (Cool Clubs / Hot Stix / Club Champion / NY Golf Center) and many more to see what they thought of the new product.

Thanks,
EH

There are already a lot of questions regarding weight but mine is slightly different, I was wondering if every color will be the same weight? I know with certain grips white weighs more because its a heavier dye, I don't know if the same will run true with the coating process you have used. Also why are these only available in taper?
Hi Dean,

Thank you for your question. The differenct colors do weigh the same. This is a patent pending process using three polyurethane coatings for each shaft. This makes for vibrant colors that have great durability. Taper tip heads are the most common on the market. Also, if you have a .370 hosel head you can use a shim to take up the extra space and it will perform the same.

Thanks,

CM

Does the coating on the shaft affect the wt and flex of the shaft? Do you have to alter the shaft construction to allow for the coating?
3Piece,

the coating on the shaft affects weight by 1.5g thus being about 1% of the total weight. For the KBS TOUR Series, the flex may be affect by 1cpm possibly 2. We don't actually alter the shaft construction. This is an after-production process that involves a few critical stages: abrasion, sealer coat, paint coat, clear coat. Each stage consists of a few steps to ensure the final product is very durable.

Thanks,
EH

Hi mcadet,

I have been working out on tour (about 20 to 25 events a year) for the past four years. In the past four years out on tour…. Which is not very long to make a very solid answer to your question but I will try to. I have seen more and more guys going to quarter inch to half inch over standard length. Which is great for KBS because guys can go that extra half in and not have their swing weight shoot up over D4! Something a lot of guys struggle with other shafts when going longer.
What problems do you see with over length shafts?
regarding the high balance point of the kbs tour shafts. Are there any benefits of this for standard length players who don't need to add length to the shaft? Ive noticed it takes down the SW a points and makes the head feel light. Please gives us a little info into the high balance point of the kbs tour shaft and if this only benefits those who need to add extra length to the shaft.

As someone who plays 130 gram graphite currently, and has very few options for replacements:

I'm very interested to know if there has been or is an interest at KBS to create a coating that can act as a buffer to mute the vibration of steel for those players that like the dampening effect of graphite irons, but like the weight of steel?

First of all, would love to say that I'm incredibly glad I switched over to KBS Tour's in my irons..love the feel of them, great product.

Now..for a question..how do your wedge shafts differ from competitors..and for someone who already plays KBS Tours in his irons, will I feel a big difference in feel/spin and so forth by switching over in my wedges?

What is the launch and spin effect of hard stepping the KBS Tour Stiff? I hit the Stiff in an S56, and it was the sweetest combo I've ever hit (and I play Mizunos). Also, what is the performance/feel differences between the KBS Tour and C-Taper?
Pdaero,

Hard stepping will stiffen the tip section slightly. This is a good compromise if you fall in between flexes, but keep in mind that we do make + flexes. Both the spin rate will slightly drop and the trajectory angle will slightly drop. We generally suggest soft stepping over hard stepping, because hard stepping will make it feel firmer, while soft stepping will make it feel smoother. Great to hear you like the S in the S56.

The Tour and C-Taper compliment eachother very well. Every shaft in the KBS lineup is known for smooth feel. the TOUR is for a player looking for a mid flight and spin rate. The C-TAPER is for someone looking for a lower spin rate and lower launch angle. The TOUR is our flagship model and can fit a wide variety of players. Generally speaking, the C-TAPER may fit the players who hit the ball a little harder or have faster tempos than normal. Also, try going down half a flex in the C-TAPER because the tip section is stiffer and the overall performance of the shaft is very stiff.

Thanks,

CM

Hi Buster74,

Not to sound like a politician here but there really isn’t a solid answer to give you on this question. When it comes to wedges it’s really up to what the person is looking for. The C-Taper was designed for lower launch lower spin. A lot of guys are not looking for lower spin in their wedges. However, if you are, then I would suggest putting in the C-Taper in your wedges if they are in your irons. We have a few of the tour players with the C-Tapers in their wedges and really like the consistency of their irons into their wedges. However, if you are like most and looking for most spin I would suggest playing the KBS Tour Hi Rev that was designed for more spin due to the new groove change.

From a metalurgy perspective - what's next? Graphite...steel....carbon fibres...what's the future going to bring us in terms of shaft constructions?
JABRCH,

Great question. The homogenous material of steel and combination of strength, durability, performance, and feel is simply unrivaled for the better player. And, in irons, where players demand the highest consistency, that combination is why 99% of TOUR players trust steel shafts.

That said, there are different products for different calibers of player and graphite has long been popular among mid handicappers. However, with the onset of lightweight steel a lot of mid handicap steel is moving steadily into that performance category.

The KBS TOUR Series incorporates a wide range of weight ranges for steel products while remaining fairly simple with regards to fitting and performance. We believe our performance catalog mixed with some innovative programs like the CUSTOM SERIES are a good mix bringing customization and aesthetics into the mix with steel shafts.

Thanks,
EH

Hi Stopdog,

At this point we are not planning on doing any custom finish for the C-Tapers. Being that the C-Taper is new to the market we are still trying to get people use to the satin finish. I can promise you one thing, if we do plan on doing any custom finish on the C-Taper GolfWrx will be the first to know about it! Thanks for playing KBS product!
I have played KBS Tours and currently play C-Tapers and love them...My question is will you offer the custom finishes in C-Tapers or is just the Tours?

How durable are the Pearl finishes, and will they be available for both iron and wedge shafts?
jhmeresqu,

The pearl finishes are very durable. The passed our internal testing and testing at all major OEMs for graphite shafts. This patent pending process has three polyurethane coats that make for a very consistent, vibrant and durable appearance.

These are in production for 3-PW and wedges. We think this will be a great way to customize your whole set or even just the wedges for a unique look at your course.

Thanks,

CM
