Ballspeed / Swingspeed Relation

Numbers with Vector..............
I see a lot of posts on the various forums where ballspeeds are mentioned along with swingspeeds. The one common thing seems to be that the swingspeed mentioned seems to be way too much for the indicated ballspeed.
So, this got me thinking and I have put in a lot of time with my Vector lately. Now, I seem to be questioning my Vector as the swingspeed number seems really low for the given ballspeeed when compared to what people claim on these forums.

So, lets assume pretty consistent and good contact is occurring, at various ballspeeds what kind of swingspeed should one see?

I personally seem to hover in the 157-164 ballspeed range between poor and good contact. When I hit several in a row that are all well struck, then I stay in the 161-164 range.

Now at those ballspeeds my Vector says the club speed is in the 103-107 range.

Looking at peoples posts on the internet, they claim 160ish ballspeeds, but claim 110-115mph head speeds.

So.........what's the opinion here?

Most likely the quality of the swing. If you're on the launch monitor and trying to get a nice high Clubhead speed, you're probably not putting the same swing on it that you do on the course and making crappy contact.

My Club Head Speed is typical falls within the 95 - 98 MPH range, and can get into the tripple digits if I swing out of my shoes. My typical ball speed for my "Golf Course Swing" is in the low 140's but when I go for it and try to get the numbers up, I could be 101 for Club Head Speed, but still be in the low 140's (or worse).

If your ball speed is at least 150% of your swing speed, that's pretty good. Your's is approximately 154%. If a person with a 112 swing speed has a ball speed of 165mph (averages of your example) they would have a swing speed/ball speed ratio of 147%.

I had a driver fitting yesterday and I averaged 153%. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

That's my $0.02 anyway!

I took some swings on a Vector LM yesterday...demoed the FT-5 and Sumo2. It was my second time on the LM. I have had consistent readings both times that clearly do not reflect on course reality. Since my first LM session I have tracked driver distance, conditions, and FIR each round I play. The LM had me pegged at distances around 255 with a swing speed of 100-104 and ball speed of 149-153. Here are some of the good drives from one of my post LM rounds last round 284 (into wind), 286 (into wind), 310 (down wind), 290 (down wind); wet course very little roll, sometimes none. I also hit some crappy drives, but none were under 275 for the day. Clearly, my LM figures don't jive with the distances I am actually experiencing.

So in my opinion the LM is overrated. I don't plan on using one again. I will select my driver/shaft combo based on course demos and feel.

1.5x your swingspeed is pretty optimal.. you are not going to do much better then that. Only I time my number approach 1.55-1.6 is when I kill it off the heel. Sure the numbers look great but the ball went superlow and left and about 220 in real life. (cool)

isn't the typical smash factor (ratio of ball speed to swing speed) anywhere between 1.4 and 1.55 depending on the face "hotness" of the club and quality of contact? so for a 100mph clubhead speed you should achieve anywhere from 140-155mph.

based on my experience with Accusport vectors (older model pictured below) both with my swing and those of my customers, i see 1.4-1.45 smash factor most often. also, the Accusport people claim the distances (mostly pertaining to drivers) shown on the vector or typically anywhere between 15-20yds shorter than reality.

well, not sure if my contribution helped your question at all but these are my experiences.
