VS Proto Questions

I am looking to put vs proto shafts in my woods this upcoming season...My woods are the d1, 904f, and 2 pt-585h hybrids by titleist...My question is, what shafts do i put in (I usually play stiff in all my shafts, but i was wondering about the weights and stuff like that)...I play to about a 12 and usually hit my drives around 275-300...Thanks

thats pretty impressive driving distance numbers for a 12 capper- id just use whatever driver gave u those numbers

Yea well I'm about as straight as Elton John (no offense to anyone) when it comes to accuracy...I have a 905R now with v2, however, I have an order on a 904d1 and im getting it with the proto and need to reshaft my 3 wood and 2 hybrids...Can someone spare me the trip and cost to get fitted and help me out with weight and flex?? Thanks

problem is its hard giving a recommendation on shafts without knowing your swing speed, tempo, flight patterns, etc, etc, etc, etc :drinks:

im going to golf galaxy tomorrow to demo the nike pro combo tours and the s58 so ill get my swing numbers for a driver...I hit a draw (forget that, I hook it bad) and not fluid, but good rhythm...

I am not an expert, but have been doing some shaft-research recently.

 

Sounds like you would like to hit more fairways even if have to sacrifice a few yards?

 

If that is true, you might consider a bit more weight in the shaft. I understand that more weight adds to consistency, but might reduced swing-speed so you'll sacrifice a few yards for fairways hit. I've been using shafts recently between 63-78g and have found the heavier shafts to be more consistent.

 

I've also tried to find a swing-speed or CPM reading that seems to be consistent for me for choosing flex as the different manufacturers use different swing speeds for R, S, etc. I'd suggest mapping your SS to the manufacturer's recommendations. Not sure what it is for VS...but I'm pretty confident that Aldila will have a rating on their web-site. If you are right in the middle of 2 letter flexes based on speed, I've heard advice go up to get consistency and down for distance, or up if you're a hitter and down if you're a swinger.

I have never met a 12 handicapper that truly hits it 300 on any regular basis but that might be a question of my bad maths or concrete fairways.

If you have info on your clubhead speeds try to match it what the manufacturer suggests:

If you hook it right now it is probably your swings fault, but if you actually bomb it 300 STIFF will not do the trick for you because if the shaft is too weak your misses will have a tendency to hook.

You can also spare some yards and try a shorter shaft. cutting off 1/2 inch might give you an extra 2 fairways without sacrificing a lot of distance.
