Macgregor VIP. It is a premium urethane ball that golfsmith tried to sell for $39/doz. Some stores have them for 2 for $30 right now. I have played it and it is a VERY good ball and can't be beat for the money.

I was wondering the same thing a couple of days ago.

If he's not, at least we've been productive practicing our splendid typing skills cool.gif

I'm on a similar hunt, so the responses have been helpful to me... other than the fact I have a box of the V2s and just wasn't that impressed with them.

I like the E5 alot, but wasn't getting as much spin as I usually do... then again, the last time I played I missed the green alot, so my sample size is small.

Once my game gets back to being consistent, I will find the "right" cheap ball for me.

$25 for a ball is pretty steep...but seriously I echo what others have said lostgolfballs.com. Callaway Tour I, Nike One Tour or 20-XIs, Titleist Pro VI, etc. all would suit your needs for under $25.

Gamer V2 cannot be beat for the $$

Nothing else is close...nothing

Shot even par on the front 9 this weekend with the V2

The back 9 was not so good...but it was not the balls fault !

The only reason I ever look at other balls is to avoid saying I'm playing a "Top Flite" but the truth of the matter is the V2 is hard to beat at any price
The Gamer V2 is the sh@#!!!! Nothing is better than out-driving and out-playing everyone in your group while rocking a Top-Flite. Say it loud and say it proud. Top-Flite!

Callaway HX Diablo Tour $21 at local walmart.

I normally play proV1x but at the start and end of the golf season or when My game is off I will play these.

For the money these are hard to beat - good distance off driver, very long off the irons and more than enough green side spin for normal condition greens. IMHO these are superior to NXT Tour. The only real negative is they feel a little hard and hot off the putter but you quickly get used to that....

That's interesting that you say they feel hot off the putter.
I'm running out of the gross of TP reds I won and I'm looking for the "Pro V" for $2 as well. I've been intrigued by the Diablo tour so I went to GS and took some to the putting green and they felt like a marshmellow that really rebounded.
Think I'm going to do a 6 doz deal on ebay.

This ball is currenty marked down to $12.97/dozen at my local Golfsmith. They have 2 versions of the ball. The older version (made in Japan) is clearly the old Srixon URS ball in disguise. This was Srixon's top of the line ball 4 years ago.

The newer version of the VIP is made in Taiwan. I have no idea who makes it. The newer version has a different dimple pattern, and feels "tacky" out of the box vs. the older ball which feels "slippery."

Gift ideas?  Products I have tested.
