Titleist 909H

G.Review

Recommended Posts

The 909H are able to be worked either direction, high, mid or low upon command with a more boring flight. The 585 was a ballooner for me. I had the VS Proto in mine and the Voodoo works better. I don't get caught up on tight lies and the rough sees a smoother movement through it. The face angle is 1/2* open on the 909H but I don't fight hooks anyway. I've also hit a ton of really accurate shots on long par 3s (200+) whereas the other hybrids were just long and straight. Not a bad thing until you get a nasty cross wind.

I have a 906f4 18.5* and still use the 17* 909H for working the ball around trees, etc. I also use it to hit out of divots with a great deal of success. I could never tag a ball over 200 out of a divot with an iron or fairway consistently. Rough is a non issue also. I don't have to swing hard to get results either.

I'm thinking of getting a 909H over the 909F2 18.5, partly because a 17* fits my distance gaps better. But I like that it's a like a smaller more versatile version of the 5 wood, or at least it seems that way. It won't limit shot shaping compared to a 5w right? I'm gonna use this for pretty much 2 shots- really short par 4's with big doglegs, and second shots to the green on par 5s.

I finally found a 3-wood 15 degree fairway wood to hit. I just got done playing the 909 15 degree hybrd. Every other fairway wood I could not hit for the life of me. This club with the smaller head works great for me. I was a little concern with the 15 degrees, but I had no problems hitting it off the fairway. I have the voodee shaft and it works just fine. Thank you titiliest.

I took a demo 909H out for a spin today. Tested it head to head against my 20* Nickent 3DX DC with a Graphite Design YS-Hybrid 85g stiff. The 909H was 19* and had the VooDoo stiff.

I have liked the Nickent, but it seems to go left on me occasionally, and the .5* open face of the 909H intrigued me in that regards.

I took it out for 9 holes today, and hit both hybrids on every hole, about 3 balls with each. I would tee off with each for 3 shots, then hit 3 off the fairway into the green from about 200+ for 3 shots.

Bottom line, the Titleist was solid. It was long and straight. It was a good 10 yards longer than the Nickent, and more consistent. It was uncanny on several of the holes where I could throw a blanket down over the balls hit with the 909H.

I was able to work the 909 both ways pretty easily, but when I wanted it to go straight it did that. Pretty forgiving for a Titleist club too.

I originally thought I was going to have to go with the Diamana shaft since it is a bit lighter and a little more torque, and thought the VooDoo was going to be too low launch and too heavy for me. To my surprise, the Voodoo really got the ball up nicely, from the tee and the fairway. I was able to hit some high towering shots into some greens from 210-220, that stopped nicely.

I had to decide if the 909H was $200 better than my Nickent, and after an exhaustive 9 hole demo hitting about 50 balls, I would say yes. Hope to buy one in the next few days.

I am really impressed with my 909h 21*, I have found a hybrid that fits in with the rest of my game. I can easily work this club both ways but with a nice easy swing I know its going to draw ever so slightly without fear of turning into a hook. The flight is quite high but I have not experienced any ballooning even when playing in windy conditions. I am surprised at the previous reviews as not too many have mentioned the feel but then again feel is a very personal subjective thing. For me I love the feel of this hybrid, I know where I have hit the ball on the club face and it feels solid, powerful and comes off pretty hot. This is the best hybrid I have hit to date and when I can afford it I will certainly be adding one maybe two to my bag.

I just got the 909H with the made for voodoo in an X flex, 15 deg and this is hands down the best hybrid on the market. I have a ss of 123 avg and can get it up to 130 if i want to swing out of my shoes and this shaft feels pretty tight for a "made for" shaft. I can hit the ball as high as anyone as i know, so I dont carry a 3 wood, and perform much better with this club. windy days with tough holes, leave the r9 in the bag and take this out be in the fairway 270+. They are great clubs.

Really nice at 21* w/ a voodoo stiff. neutral lie at address, easy to cut or draw - it is just a fantastic feeling hybrid. can be had much cheaper than the 910h.

I had the 17* one too but found it a bit too closed at address and while I could hit it off the deck okay, I had real issues off a tee with it. I just tended to close down on it or even snap hook it, which is not something I usually ever do..I wanted to use it instead of a 3 wood (for those moments when you cant even hit your 3 wood!)

-- alas, it just wasnt as versatile as I'd have hoped...

I hit the 17* 910H with the head repositioned to more open and it was great, but they are still pricey for such a specialty type club...
