3 wood, I really can't decide!

So many choices
I know there have been a few 3 wood threads lately, but I really cannot decide.

I'm relatively new to the game and need a 3 wood. There are so many options. I'm a high handicapper, so I'm looking for something easy to hit. I don't get to play too often, so demo'ing lots of clubs is not a real option. I'm tall (6'7"), lean, and swing it pretty fast.

I'm considering a V Steel, Cobra SZ, Launcher, Redline. I'm not in a position to spend too much, would like to keep it under $150, which all of these clubs can easily be had for used or off Ebay.

Golf Galaxy had an SZ in the used rack today with what I think was an Adila NL (maybe NV, it was green) for 89.99 plus 20% off. I'm thinking that was a good deal.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

Man, I wish we had a Golf Galaxy here in Atlanta. That's a great price, even for used.

Golfsmith has Launcher w/graphite for $99 which is a pretty good deal. The Launcher is ridiculously easy to hit.

Ive been checking out prices on ebay recently on Tour Edge Exotics 3 woods. I've been bidding actually. They seem to go gently used for about $150 but you have to pay for shipping. If you do a search, you'll know what members on this board think of the Exotics fairway woods. If you're too lazy to do a search, I'll sum it up: WOW.

It's a little more than the other ones you listed, but its retail is also much higher... You really gotta search for a gently used one for that price though. There's a bunch that go for higher...

Good luck..

I have read a bunch about the Tour Edge Exotics and have found that people rave about them. Local shop doesn't have them though (I have one more shop to check) and I wouldn't want to buy a club without ever picking up and feeling a similar model, you know? Maybe I'll try to hit that other shop at lunch today.

There's just so many options in a similar price range. That SZ for about $72 seems good, but there's something to say for a brand spanking new Launcher for only $99 as well. Can get new V Steels on eBay in that price range too.

I would suggest a shallow faced head. I play the Nike t-60 and it is a deep faced head. I personaly think it isnt for a higher handicaper. I think the v-steel, tour edge, and older callaway steelheaded fw woods as well as other like them are all good options.

I allways go to a mega store that allows you to hit them before buying to see which one fits you the best.

3 woods are tough to dial into. Getting one that is best for you could take longer than other clubs. At least I found that the case for me.

Of the clubs you've listed, I'd choose either the SZ or the Launcher.

I'd throw the Big Bertha 2004 model in there as well...

Available at Callawaygolfpreowned.com WITH upgraded shafts (NV, YS6, etc.) for $149.99.

I just bought Cobra SZ 3wood. Have tried V-steel, Tourstage VIQ, SteelHead 3.

The SZ gives a better feel for me, easier to hit and Cheap Price VS the Specs.

I live in Thailand so I got a Japan version that comes with Mitsu Rayon SL-45 which really do a nice job kicking the ball up in the air.

Did not try the Launcher but for now I reckon to go for the SZ.

I'll throw one last one in there. The Callaway Great Big Bertha II Titanium 3 Wood. It's basically the same club as the new 2005 Big Bertha Titanium Fairway Wood. I believe the shape of the face is a tad different, with a different shaft and color (Blue vs Red). But I basically didn't notice any difference in performance between my old GBB II 3W to my new Ti Fairway Wood. You can pick this up from Callaway Pre-Owned for $179 in Like new condition.

Read my review of these clubs here: http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/index.php?sh...indpost&p=33912
