V1x,hex black,TP5,20XI S test.

Headed to the monitor
Im taking these 4 to the launch monitor with driver and wedge for a test. I warmed up buy hitting ten balls. Then hit 5 balls with each with driver. The two odd balls went out and then averaged the remaining 3. I then repeated the process with a 54* 3/4 swing. That shot for me is usually about 70 yds.
On to the numbers:
Ball: Club spd/ Ball spd/ launch/ backspin/ offline/ carry/ total

Prov1x: 108/159/12.4/3150/6/273/284
20XI-S: 107/158.5/10/3460/-7/263/276
TP5: 106/156.7/12.8/3072/9/268/280
Hex blk: 107.8/160/11.7/3248/11/273/285

Prov1x: 42.7/62.9/31.9/10320/4/68/70
20XI-X: 39/57/32.7/9223/-3/59/63
TP5: 42.2/62.3/34.1/10212/-2/67/68
Hex blk: 44/65.5/32.5/9899/-2/72/74

My votes for this INDOOR test:

Overall: prov1x
Feel: hex black
Dispersion: prov1x (scary with driver, think kids trampoline at 285 yds with 5 balls)
Wedge accuracy: TP5

I would like to add that this was driver and wedge only. I have played the 20xi last year and liked it overall except in heavy winds. The prov1x is and always has been a great ball. I really want to give the hex black a good chance outside. The feel from driver to wedge is perfect.

If you hit 10 balls each shots take the lowest and highest number and then find your averaage with the remaining 8 shots.

I'm a ProV1 junkie, but be warned that the new Hex ball is really good, and the 20XI-S is a really good ball as well.

I get the best "combo" of feel from the ProV1, but the Hex is longer, put doesn't feel quite as great putting. Tears up a bit easier too. The Nike is the most durable I think, but I don't like the trajectory or sound, but it's long, and spins like unreal.

Thanks again...Looks like the TP5 is really a good low spin ball off the driver for a high spin player like me. I guess if the TP5 was hit at 108 SS like the ProV1x it would have had about the same distance?? How was the feel of the TP5 versus the ProV1x? Looking for a low spin ball off the driver and a little softer than the Srixon XV.

Great stats, thanks for posting! My clubhead speed is roughly the same (110), so that's very useful. It looks like I will remain a ProV loyalist.

Look no further than TP5 my friend! Slightly softer than V1x and much softer than XV. I didn't think anything would get XV out of my bag... Then came TP5. :good:

interesting numbers. I too have tested each one of these balls and found the TP5 spun them off the driver whilee the hex black and 20XI X spun the least. I tested these on the course off of each tee for 9 holes and the TP5 was on average 10yds shorter for me then the other 2 balls. THe TP5 felt the softests off of irons and felt amazing off the putter. For me the HexBlack is longer then all of them and unreal in the wind. 2012 for me goes to the black.

I tested several balls on Trackman and the course, however I no longer have my exact Trackman data. But I can share with youthe summary of my findings. My driver swing speed is 100-102mph.

Spin results off driver lowest spin to highest:
1. 2012 B330
2. Penta TP5
3. Hex Black
4. Pro V1x

Ball speed off driver highest to lowest:
1. Hex Black
2. Pro V1x
3. Penta TP5
4. 2012 B330

Overall distance (carry + roll) longest to shortest:
1. Hex Black
2. Penta TP5
3. 2012 B330
4. Pro V1x

So, knowing this, why did I go with Penta TP5 as my ball you ask, here's why (not in any special order):
1. TP5 has the best feel
2. TP5 wasn't the best at any one thing, but it was the best overall ball for my game
2. TP5 played the best for me on the course (wasn't the longest or the most spin, bet the best mix of both)

Overall distance from best ball to worst was about 5 yards, not enough for me to sacrifice feel or short game characteristics to pick up and extra few yards off the tee.

In short, TP5 fits my game very well; low spin off the tee, great in the wind, responsive feel, doesn't over spin on full short iron and wedge shots and has great green side spin and control.

how does the TP5 compare to the Penta. i would like to get a ball similar to proV1x (hex black, XV, TP5, B330, etc., ) but thought that i would go with last years model to save little money on Ebay.

TP5 is very similar to last years Penta in all aspects except driver, fairway woods and hybrids. This years TP5 is lower spinning and longer with these clubs. Short game performance is about identical for me.

My favorite ones are the free ones. I rotate between the ProV1x and NXT tour depending on the course and
conditions. The new NXT tour is a good ball. If I 'm playing a course that is real wet I'll play the cheaper ball
because it really doesn't make much difference. I pro once said to me, if you had to play a round of golf for
your life and could pick any ball what would it be. Not saying it is better or worse because I think all the premium
balls are of high quality but I'd use ProV1x but that is just me. If I was paid, I would play what they paid me to
play.
