First round with the SQ

Many more to come...
This is a follow up to my SQ Range Session Review thread from yesterday.

Today I play a full 18 holes today with the Nike SQ (retail...not tour). Specs are listed in the above thread.

Overall I am very happy with the club. I missed 2 fairways with it all day and one of them was not a bad drive, I just drove it through the fairway. :idhitit:

I'm very happy with this club. My regular playing partner agreed it was at least 10 yards longer for me than the comparible Ignite I usually play and the dispersion was MUCH better. I didn't hit every one of them great but i was sort of happy to get to see how forgiving it is on mis-hits. I hit one very low on the club face, ended up dead center of the faiway, acceptable distance.

It was a bit windy in Seattle today to I hit it a few times into a pretty good wind. One one hole, uphill short par4, I had 107 yards left to the hole...this was playing into the wind. For reference, on a non-windy day, a GOOD drive with my ignite would leave me around 110-120 so performance there was excellent.

As I said above, I hit it through 1 fairway where my ignite usually puts me in the fairway with about 5 yards to spare...do definitely longer there.

Trajectory with a real ball was AWESOME. Nice and high, very little movement to it (still my normal cut shape which I like) and in the fairway. The one fairway I really missed was a BIG BLOCK to the right but even that one didn't side-spin to the right...it went straight right.

On the course it was clear the stock shaft in the new SQ is far superior to the Fujikura ignite shaft. I know folks will be offended by a stock shaft but hey...i'm a 4 handicap and found it to be much more controlled with excellent performance and up there with any shaft out there. Don't assume this shaft sucks.

Feel on the course was excellent. I could tell when I nailed it and I could tell when I missed it. That is a must for me. My buddy just got an FT-3 and there just isn't enough feel with that club. He hit the SQ on a few holes and agreed it had far superior feel to the FT-3.

For some reason, I've been partial to Nike drivers for the last few years and the SQ continues that tradition. I will DEFINITELY be ordering the exact set up I tried for delivery as soon as possible.

Hope folks find this helpful.

Thanks for the review. I just bought a 983E so I'm not about to drop $300 for an SQ, but it's nice to know Nike is moving in a good direction.

I agree with your comment on the FT-3, Callaways have never been good feel clubs for me. They're ridiculously light and thus promote higher swing speeds for weekend golfers but otherwise, not my style.

Fairways woods are alright though.

Excellent, glad to hear it's working.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write up a review of your experiences.

I'm for sure going to order a SQ Tour when it starts shipping in Feb., but if my tee ball struggles next year, I'll give the Max version you hit today a serious look/try to get me straitened out.

Can't wait.....every review I read, once people get past the initial shock of the looks, have nothing but praise for its performance.

You are right DLefty. Everyone in my group today had the "holy crap" reaction after first seeing the look, but when they saw me cut the corner of the dogleg on the first hole and drive it at least 15 yards past where I normally was they were over that quickly. :idhitit:

Seriously - this is a serious club with a lot of positive technology for players of all types.

The first time I put a 460cc head in front of me I was "holy crap". Now its an every day look.

Trust me, when you see this thing for real you will have to get used to it. It looks way bigger than a 460cc head.
