Very aggravated.. ProV1.. Help!

Recommended Posts

Ok.. I have played a ton of different golf balls. I love the prov1 .. But the damn ball gets wrecked after one full wedge. I am not a pro and can't afford to be paying 4 a ball and taking one out of play every 3-4 holes. I liked the qstar due to its durability but didn't spin nearly enuff. Now I know having a more durable cover will decrease spin but there has to be a medium some where. What are your ball recommendations??

Thanks

I quit playing Pro V's for the same reason, one good wedge swing and it was toast. I switched to Callaways and for me they are more durable. I have not used the Z Star but from all the reviews it sounds like it is the most durable. I have only played a couple of Hex Blacks so far and they seem okay in the durability department. I can play 18 holes with one. It will be slightly scuffed by the end of 18 but nothing like I tear up a Pro V.

Srixon Z-Star is your option for durability while retaining all of the qualities of a tour ball. Srixon has this ball dialed in and it is a performer. Great off all clubs and smooth off the putter. Other options I would toss out as close second is the B330-S/Nike 20XI-s/x and third the HEX Black (does get gills from wedge shots). I didn't use middle tier balls as your main ball was the Pro V1 and you are looking for more spin than the Q-Star.

When all things are considered, I have found that no ball performs as well and is as indestructible as the Z-Star.

Well I loved the qstar yellow for everything but wedge/iron spin.. Maybe the Zarra is the solution.. I'm playing today.. Guess I'm off to the store to grab some zstars

Are these wedges, New, or have you had them for a spell ???
Reason I asked, Friend of mine, felt compelled to use a groove tool on his
wedges, You guessed it, Starts complaining about balls getting roughed up,
This may not be your senario, but the Pro V has been out for sometime. And I
agree, $ 4.00 balls are costly !!! I use the Taylormade Black TP, great all around
ball, nice around the greens.

With all the used golf ball options out there on line including ebay I'm not sure why anyone buys new balls at retail prices any more, especially the expensive tour level balls. The used balls I buy look like they might have seen one or two holes of use. I buy 3 or 4 dozen balls on line during the off season and never have to worry about golf balls for the rest of the year. As for golf balls not being playable after one wedge shot. Really? How many strokes do you think a couple abrasions on your golf ball will add to your round?

Try Bridgestone B330-s, they are a little cheaper than the pro v and they are much more durable. I am a high speed, steep angle player and these balls just last forever. I also play most of my rounds in Texas and in Arizona with tough ground and rocks....no problems. They spin good around the greens and are much more acurate off the tee than a pro v, great wind ball as well.

Give them a try I think you will find they fit your needs!!

I have 2 identical sets of wedges and they are new. I never use a sharpener

OK, The only thing I can suggest, would be to get yourself and the
wedges into a bunker, for a little sand/ bunker practice. After a
dozen or so bunker shots, you may see your issue with the Pro V
disappear. Just a thought. Simple wedge use will also work,
it will just take more time. When I replace my wedges, scuffing
and ball marks are common for me also.

I've been commenting to friends recently how greatly improved the new generation ProV1 is in terms of durability. It is every bit as durable, to my surprise, as the aforementioned premium balls (for me). I'm a real spinner as well. Sounds like a groove thing. Yellow balls last forever to be sure. Good option for those tearing up whities.

Was hitting some great shots with the 20XI-S yesterday and durability wise it was doing pretty good. I've also played the Z-Star and original Penta and Penta TP3 and all will last 24 holes durability wise. You can find the original Penta TP right now below retail since they are discontinued. Test it and stock up if you can.
