Switched from Pro V1 to Velocity. Wow.

Recommended Posts

I made the switch to the Velocity from the Pro V1 and wow... I love it. I loved everything about it. My driver and long irons were MUCH straighter. I noticed a gain in distance with my driver and a small gain with irons. I flew a a 313 yrd par 4. My 4 iron carried 225 yards to two putt for a birdie. It felt good. My first round with it was a even par 36.

All the reviews I read about the ball weren't very positive. Especially, about the green side performance. I felt the complete opposite.

I suggest trying different sleeves of different balls. Forget reviews. They plain suck(Including mine). Everybody has a different taste and how they prefer to play.

That's one thing I did not even notice a difference. I scrambled on 3 holes with short chips and noticed no difference.. same check and release I got with a Pro V1 Made par par on 2 of 3(Bladed one because of a poor lie and swing). As far as approach shots 150 yards in.. also no difference in spin. In my experience this ball is hands down better(For my game obviously). Given, I have 9 holes with it. I'll be playing 18 on a links course tomorrow. I'll post up the results.

I like the distance a lot and it flies fairly straight. Chipping seems to be ok, but when hitting pitches or flops there isn't as much spin as I'd like. I'm torn between srixon q star and this ball.

Played them both...I prefer the Q-Star! I did not like the feel of the Velocity when I putted, too soft. When I played Titleist I played the ProV1X.

I second this. Just switched from ProV1x to NXT Tour S and love the softer feel, yet can spin it just fine into the greens. How is the Velocity different from the NXT?

Titleist 915Fd 13.5
Titleist 913h 17

Backup bag:

Ping G30 hybrid 19
Ping iBlade 4-PW power spec
Macgregor VIP wedges 51, 56, and 60

Why can't we just admit the velocity is a rock? It's a cheap ball that promotes "distance." Of course it is just a firm ball. Play a top-flite! Same thing! It just has cool orange numbers and pretty marketing. Brilliant move by Titleist if you ask me. It probably did make the OP's shots go straighter because it limited side spin that a pro v-1 would give up.

I currently play the ProV1x, and have the same issues with the side spin. I was deciding between the Velocity and NXT Tour S. I ended up going with the NTX Tour S. Will be trying them out in the morning.

It would be interesting in seeing the difference of the two, seeing if the spin around the greens is worth a small decrease in distance.

There's probably not more than 5 yards difference from one ball to another.

Ya know.. I could believe that assuming each ball was struck identically or perfect. But I don't strike the ball perfect. My drives produce a decent fade. The velocity ball basically deleted my fade. I believe the Pro V1 had too much spin for my game and was only hurting it.

Exactly. The Velocity overall compression is several points softer than any ProV1 and a dozen or more points softer than a V1X.

And spin isn't good for everyone's game. For quite a few the spin hurts in all phases of the game including the short game where it makes shots less predictable for those who don't have consistent contact.

is this true?
i have not tried the velocity but i have played a dozen of qstars and found them to be too mushy on putts.
if velocity is softer than qstar on putts, i can only assume that it's like a rubber ball.

I tried the Velocity and couldn't stand it. It's long, it has a fairly softish feel, but the spin rate is in no way comparable to any premium ball or even a tier 2 ball like the NXT Tour. Anyone who switches to it from a Pro V1 (or similar) must be mad. Wait until the fairways and greens firm up a little and see how many switch back

Then you must need the added spin that the Pro V1 offers. I however don't. I shot an even par round with the Velocity. I'm 100% satisfied.

Everybody is different. Different swings, taste, etc.

The point of the thread is that just because someone says it isn't or you.. Don't believe it. Try it for yourself.

Wait...what?

I game the Q-stars and find them to be plenty firm on all aspects of the short game. They are an excellent putting ball. I just really disagree with that. But maybe our putters and styles are different (I use a Ping Echo2, steady even stroke) .
