Different balls, same scores.

So Im stuck between two golf balls that are geared for differnt swing types. 2011 Prov1x and 2011 B330-RX are the balls and each have some strengths. The Prov1X has given me the straightest, longest drives and seems to be a match made in heaven. I putt great with it and the wedges are laser straight. My irons are hit and miss and I cant seem to hit a green from 140 out with the Prov1x. Its a 15 yard fade or a 15 yard draw with nothing in between and cant consistantly count on pulling off the shape at will. Cant sniff a pin on a par 3 to save my life. The B330RX has provided me with some of the greatest iron play that I can remember. Laser straight and can knock down pins from 180yards with ease. Off of the driver, I kinda spray the ball and have a tough time dealing with the accuracy. They are fine off the wedges and I can putt well with them too. No matter which ball, I post between around 78-80. Where do I draw the line? I kinda think the Titleist method is correct with start from the green and work your way back but I find the Prov1x suits everything except my iron game. My blowup holes are par3's. B330RX blowup holes are off the tee box. No confidence with the Prov1x on par3's and no confidence with the B330RX with the driver. I feel like I shoot an 80 easier with the RX then the V1x if that makes sense. I have to use the short game prowless of the V1x cause I cant hit the green. If I atleast hit the fairway with the RX then I have a great chance of stuffing it near the hole with my irons. Driver Speed is 105-107 and consistantly hit it 260-265 yards. 7 iron is 150 with the Prov1x and 160 with the RX. Any thoughts?

If you are straight w/ one off the driver and the other w/ the irons and vice versa, it's mental/in your head and you have little chance when playing the ball that allegedly goes astray once you're over the shot. For sh*ts and giggles, why don't you experiment:

-play a round as such; v1x off all holes that require a driver. Off all holes you do not hit a driver, use the rx. When you are in the middle of the fwy. as you say you are w/ the v1x, do not flag hunt, ignore the flag altogether and play the safest shot imaginable to the fat part of the green or the bail out/non trouble area.

I don't know man. I don't think you're going to have situation where you're accurate with the driver, accurate with the wedges, and inaccurate with mid to long irons and be able to convince anyone that it's the ball. Not even if you were accurate with another ball. Same goes for the driver. It sounds more like you were swinging different during each stretch. If you're plenty long enough and driver distance between the two balls is close, I'd pick the ball that spins more around the greens.

Use White Out on the ball logos and go play again. If the "problem" isn't solved I will give you all my Star Wars figures. Except Boba Fett...can't risk the Fett-man.

I really have not had a chance to go to the course when no one is there to work out my issue with the Prov1x. I find it super hard to hit the ball straight but find it very easy to work it left or right. I switched from the 2009 AP2's to 695 CB's to mainly game the Prov1x for this season. The AP2's launced the Prov1x too high with too much spin for me. I have the distance and trajectory but not the accuracy. If its a right pin, I aim at the left side and cut it back and end up missing the green on the right short side and same goes for the left pin. I feel like a stud working the ball but not sure if I can tame it and get it under control. I just dont play enough to have that control. hence I drool over my baby cut/draw I get with the RX. I play in a 9 hole bar league and the course is 6000 yards from the back tees and Par 71. All of my scoring comes from Driver/wedge. Im playing against guys that using Pinacle Gold distance is the norm and hitting it straight on this course is a must. I feel like Im trading one evil for another.

I don't blame you.

If you're man enough to survive the sarlacc in the infamous Pit of Corkoon, you've earned yourself a permanent spot right next to the KISS collection.

Well that makes a little more sense. You just have too much spin with the 1x. Doesn't sound like a good fit. But the first thing you said didn't make any sense. If it spins too much it spins too much. You're not going to hit driver and wedges straight and irons off line because of the ball. You were just swinging better with the driver is all. Same goes for the RX. When you used that you just had a slightly off swing with your driver that didn't translate to your irons. If you keep hitting the RX I think you'll find over the long run you don't hit it any more off line off the tee than the 1x. And you hit your irons farther and straighter with it. Switching clubs to play a ball is a little crazy though. Do you want to play an expensive ball that much despite it not being good for your game?

only time i feel a big diffence with diffent balls are off the driver. I can tell right away if i start praying my drives all over i go back to the prov1x and i start hitting it nice and straight again. Putting i tend to like bridgestone's for some reason. had my best putting days with them. irons mostly can hit any ball about the same.

Past 2 evenings I got to spend some time out on the course hitting multiple balls and drinking some beers. Kinda of a test and tune night. Heres what I really found out by playing multiple shots, The Prov1X really shines off the driver. It matches my D3 perfectly and hits frozen ropes all day. The RX off the driver comes off a bit strange, Im having this vision in my mind that the ball is deforming too much and the trajectory is a degree or two higher than the V1x costing me some yards. Nothing crazy but atleast a iron more into each green. My iron striking was on and and the Prov1x was playing great but I noticed out of the rough is where the V1x hurts me. I almost have to take one more club to offset the grass deading the impact. The RX didnt really matter where I hit it from and it was always hitting the green and a few yards from its pitch mark. Around the green is where the RX was killing me, It hit a few wedges that would normally 2 hop and check where running out on me. I didnt really see any benifit of playing the RX over the Prov1x. I must of been watching highlights of Bubba Watson bending iron shots to much because I stoped trying to work the ball and just settle in on what was working. I went with a baby draw all day and just avoided trying to work the fade into pins. If it was a right pin, I just aimed at it and let the draw fall away from the pin. Im good enough to be my worse enemy when it comes to shaping the shot but bad enough to not consistantly do it with success.
Oh well, now I have a new box of RX's and a box of Prov1's that will go on the shelf. Looks like the ProV1x wasnt that bad after all.
