Bridgestone J33R 420 vs. Titleist 983K

J33 wins for me. Sits open in the 8.5 I had a long time ago. Hit it on the screws and the thing wants to go forever with low spin. I had a PL Red in it and i started to consider reshafting to INCREASE my spin a touch. Ended up trading or selling it cant remember which. I admit my experience with the titleist is limited to about 5 rounds. I think that club had a prolite 35 in it but am not 100% sure on what shaft was in it. It was my brothers club i borrowed while on a vacation. It too is very low spin. If i recall it set up slightly more neutral than the J33 but certainly not closed. I always felt I lost significant distance on toe or heal shots on the smaller face. They both have a great look at address and both are top notch in sound and feel. The Bstone wins in my book but not by a mile. Don't think you can really go wrong with either choice.

I am sure you know this and it may not be at all helpful if you are looking at a specific auction on the 983 but I really think the 905R would be closer to the j33.

Well I know the R is much, much higher spin than both of them. I am really only looking for low spin, I feel like I would probably spin a 905R too much as it is designed to be ultra forgiving and has a very shallow face. I have looked at the 905s as well. I am not to worried about the forgiveness and the 905r is definitely not a good fit as it is larger and higher spin that what I am playing already which is the opposite of what I want. I just want a cheap, very low spin backup driver to mess around with.

I actually have both- my experiences are as follows. The J33r i got first, nv 65s shaft ( i just wish i had it in like a 75x, maybe a touch whippy), 9.5. once I learned how to hit it, I loved it. One thing I love about it is when I smashed it, it wouldn't have what id consider the greatest carry, but when it hit ground, it wasn't uncommon to see the ball roll out some 40-50 yards- no joke. I actually hit 2 drives in the same round that went 330 yards- i could not beleive it. The one hole was like 370 yards water right trees left- the ball hit at bout 260, then just hurdled for like 70 yards.. guys on the green with his wife, just kept staring like he couldnt beleive it- neither could i- i was wowed. But those were drives where i absolutely crushed it. Tough club to hit and needs a very exacting swing. Now the K. prolite 3.5 stiff, 9.5.. Ahh the K..I love it, I am currently using it- another love affair. Pear shape I love.. more forgiving than the j33r but not by much- you still need a good swing as these are both true players clubs. I really like the flight on this bad boy.. nice, mid/low titleist, sound not to loud, sounds great imo, feel is top notch. Im able to get slightly more carry, more consistently, hit a nice controlled draw, prob 280-285 on average- drives of 290-300 not uncommon. Both clubs just roll and roll and roll, even up hill. Exceptional club, though both of these clubs are (low spin) legends, and legends never die ! I'd give more credit to the guy who crushing all fellow players with outdated stuff, over the other guys with there top dollar new expensive toys as if its going to make them that much better- they look like fools. The J and the K will put anything else to sleep.

Keep in mind that the 983k is 365cc vs 420 for the J33. The K had a slight draw bias in my opinion. I had both and loved both, but like others have mentioned, the J33r is on another level when it comes to low spin. If you want a better Titleist option for a head to head with the J33R, look at the 905S. 400cc with a deep face and can be found cheap.

If you want low spin, the 983e (350cc) would be better than the 983k. As mentioned above, the 905s (400cc) is also low-spin in a smaller package.
