Tried "Elijah Craig 18yo bourbon" this past weekend. Pleasantly surprised!!!
That's some good stuff...

I'm actually on a rum kick right now. Got a bottle of Appletons and some fruit and I'm going to try my hand at Tiki drinks. We will see how it goes.

I, like many others, am on a quest to find some Pappy. I'm in the process of getting to know the guys that run the best liquior store in town...so hopefully that will aid me in the future.

As a go-to, I stick to Makers. Nice, fairly smooth and I like it. Bullett is pretty good. I drank too much Wild Turkey in college and now I shy away from it. I got a bottle of Blanton's for Christmas but haven't opened it yet. Trying to wait until my other opened stuff is gone. Woodford is greatness...and I really like Basil Hayden's. Next I would like to try Four Roses, Buffalo Trace and the aforementioned Pappy.

 • 3 weeks later...

Poured myself a glass of Pappy 20yr old last night to celebrate the purchase of our first house (pending inspection)... it was excellent.

Also picked up a bottle of Town Branch over the weekend... it's a 6 year bourbon that cost me $21. Well worth the money.

I am surprised no one has mentioned it, Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage is the best bourbon I have had for the money. Eagle Rare, Bulleit, Buffalo Trace, and Old Forrester Signature are all really good too. My biggest problem is that there are so many good bourbons, I need to buy a different bottle every time I am in a liquor store. I have accumulated close to 40 bottles in the past few months of various whiskeys (I like them all Scotch, Irish, Bourbon, Rye, Canadian) and none are gone yet.
That is my go to "value" bourbon, right there. I haven't found anything at that price point that's as good. My normal bottle is Maker's, though. It's got the perfect balance of cost and flavor for me. I'm also a Maker's ambassador. My barrel is actually getting bottled this fall. I'm going to try to head out to Ky to do it in person.

My favorites of all time, though, are:

AH Hirsch 20yr
Pappy Van Winkle 23yr

I'm not a bourbon connoisseur, but it is my favorite drink. I like Makers. I've tried others, but my palate isn't sophisticated enough to warrant the $$$.

If you don't want to spend alot of money, you can't beat Old Forester Signature.

Double Oaked was awesome when I tried it... I have a friend who is a Brown Forman rep, she hooked us up with a bottle.

I love bourbon.

Another vote for Evan Williams Single Barrel. It's is getting harder to find ever since they changed the bottle, but it remains my number two overall bourbon. A close thrid place goes to Eagle Rare 10 yr. I spent a good two or three years trying every bottle I could find, including the Pappy Van Winkle 15 and 20. The 15 was just okay and the 20 is my number one all time, but for the price I can't suggest it over EW and Eagle Rare. The 23 yr. would be fun to have as a true "private stock" but I can't seem to keep bottles for long...

My rankings:

Pappy Van Winkle 20 yr
Evan Williams Single Barrel
Eagle Rare 10 yr.
Buffalo Trace
Elijah Craig 12 yr.
Jefferson
Bulleit
Booker's
Knob Creek
Woodford Reserve

Glad I stumbled across this.

Any of you tried the Parkers Heritage Collection Cognac Cask? It is spectacular. The cognac finish really compliments the pour very nicely. I was intruiged by this and was blown away with the results. Great Bottle.

As for drinkers, the usuall suspects have been mentioned.

Pappy anything
Four Roses LE is great.
EH Taylor
GTS
WLW etc
The Jeffersons Pres Select 17 and 18 are essentially re-badged PVW (Stitzel Weller) products and phenomenal.

and then we get to the scotch.

This collection is even more expensive than my golf addiction. Tread lightly boys this one is a slippery slope.

I've got about half a bottle left. And the previous release, which is a wheated mashbill. Great stuff, I agree!

This thread has me ready to try some new stuff but every time i go to the store i sit and ponder for a while and then walk out with one of the usuals, buffalo trace, Bulleit or beam black.

Give Old Forrester Signature a try... or Four Roses... I like those three, and those 2 are similarly priced and as good, if not better.

Well I got a bottle of old forester signature tonight. Can really taste the 100 proof and the flavor sits at a different place than what im used to in buffalo trace and beam black. Had two full rocks glasses today and will wait for judgement til after another go around.

Not impossible to find. Over Christmas my dad and I drank a bottle of 15 y/o and 20 y/o Pappy's during his visit. He preferred the heat of the 15 y/o better. Guess what he's getting for father's day!!!

Not one of these, my personal stash.....

I was in a hipster bar in CA over the weekend for a wedding... was discussing Pappy, and the bartender said I should try Black Maple Hill 15yr... It was 33 a glass, so I did not sample it, but I'm going to try to pick up a bottle now that I'm back in KY.

I started buying bourbons and whiskeys every pay check. I have built up roughly a 20 bottle collection. I agree with the threads above that Buffalo Trace and Bulliet are very good for the price. I also started to drink Manhattan's and use a Rye Whiskey. Bulliet also makes a great rye (Green label). I was recently in Chicago visiting friends and came across Templeton Rye. $38 a bottle and it is the smoothest I have had to date. Makes a great Manhattan.

I would suggest trying if you can find. I have looked in Michigan and can't locate. It is made in Iowa.

Pappy Van Winkle is out!

Picked up two bottles today, one for me, one for a friend.

That also frees up the bottle of double oaked prichards I had bought as a back-up if I couldn't find the Pappy for my buddies wife.

She asked me to find a good bottle for him to celebrate their upcoming child. Requesting Pappy 15... so I've been buying small batch bourbons to "test them out" for her... which ended up me buying 3 bottles for myself, and one bottle for her.

What can i say? i'm a good friend.

Buffalo Trace is awesome... they are a fun distillery and do some neat things outside of their regular bourbon... I need to buy a handle of the regular stuff just for old times sake, though.

I don't have the budget for expensive bourbons anymore... spent it all on the Pappy.

Go to the nicest liquor store in your area.. ask about it... ask them to order it, ask if there is a waiting list... that's the only way I know.

I have fallen in love with Buffalo Trace, getting so much more then I paid for
I was the same and came across a website called sourfestmanifesto and have been trying all sorts of stuff and found a new winner. Very old Barton has quickly become my favorite daily type bourbon. So smooth and tasty and priced about half of bufallo. Here in Michigan they only sell the 90 proof but they also have a 100 proof bottled in bond version that is even better.

Another is Evan Williams white label bottled in bond. Very very good bourbon and a steal at $15. Honestly I was buying Buffalo, makers and woodford and since trying these two I haven't bought any of them in months and would put those two head to head at the same price.

Give Old Forester and Old Forester Signature a try.

Old Fo Signature is my "cheap" bourbon of choice... 100 proof and $30 for a handle in KY.
