Satin-ized MP-59s?

Wondering if anyone out there has had the cojones to "satinize" their MP-59s. I have a set on the way and can't stand chrome but LOVE the clubs. Was flirting with the idea of scotch briting them in DIY fashion, but don't want to trash a set of clubs as nice as these. Any thoughts, or pics of other similar mizuno projects? My biggest hangup is the weight forging on the back which is a different color. Wondering if I could tape it or something...

Use a dremel and the scotch brite wheels and you can do the whole set in less than an hour. Make sure to buy 3 or 4 packs of the pads.

How, if at all, does this affect performance and playability of the irons bc I've been thinking about doing this to my mp37s...

The dremel wheels come in a 2 pack ones brown and the other one is like a cream color. I tried a few different ways on my 710 cb's and for me this got the best results with minimal effort. Just make sure not to turn the dremel on full speed. Halfway or just under should do it and make sure to KEEP MOVING THE DREMEL and don't stop in one place.

I haven't done it yet, but I have a set of MP-33's that I am thinking of bringing to a local sand/bead blasting shop, and having them lightly bead blast them. Bead blasting and sand blasting is where they take compressed air and add a material like sand or tiny little glass beads, they then shoot the beads at metal to remove rust, paint, or finishes. They use sand to really get at it. Removing rust, corrosion, even healthy metal. Glass is much more gentle, with the ability of just removing an outer finish. I haven't got a quote on it yet, but I'm in a big city with plenty of shops, I've got to imagine I could get a shop to do it for under like $80. I think I might have to remove the heads first tho....kind of a bummer. Unless I have them blast my S400s while I'm at it. and then I've got about the sweetest set of blades I could think of.

Best of luck on whichever method you choose to go with. Keep us updated.

I've done a set of MP-33's. They were already pretty beat up, but I was happy with the results.

I say go for it on the 59's. If I see it done successfully, I'll be out of reasons not to buy them!

Does anyone know if we're putting ourselves at risk by sanding down the chrome finishes on clubs? I believe chrome dust is a pretty significant carcinogen. Is a basic dust mask adequate?

I say go for it, my only concern would be the finish over the titanium section on the cavity. I suspect its can be satinized as well, but I wonder if it'll react differently to the treatment.

That's exactly where my head was. I did it by hand with red scotchbrite pads to a junker set of old blades and it looked awesome. Big difference between those and a new set of MP-59s though. I was thinking of taping that section and avoiding it either with the dremel or by hand. I figured if I did hit it accidentally, the tape would be there to prevent any damage from the slip up...

Such a wuss and not sure I want to guinea pig these! Buy boy does chrome just distract me. I'm like a kid with shiny objects...
