SirShanksalot on the 735 Retail demand

More questions about the Titleist 735 irons. I wish someone would just give us a solid release date on these things already! Someone might want to let the folks at Titleist know that it is almost June and some of us can only play until September! I have had a few people ask about them at work but overall demand at a retail level has been low...(more)

The amount of sets of heads in existence in North America wouldn't even come close to filling a typical initial order from a place like TGW let alone all the big retailers, mom and pop shop and on course shop. They have stepped up production and are targeting Labor Day, my prediction is a manufacturing delay then a March release when all new clubs should be introduced anyway (IMO)

No one even knows these exist except for us lunatics, so there is no consequential demand for them yet.

They wouldn't release them now or even mid-summer even if they could. It would only serve to screw every retailer who ordered 690's ans 704's to replenish their stock for this current season.

That what has been passed onto me

I've never followed release dates before. Is it standard for new clubs to be introduced in September? I'd think Spring is the best time to release new stuff for the coming season, but that's past and this lunatic can't hold out much longer for a forged set to replace my cheap knock-offs.

I think it would be wise to release them next spring like you are saying. Let the current clubs run through the fall and into the winter and then start fresh in the New Year. Why release something just in time for winter? After a season of backorders like this one, it would be really nice to see a company hold back on a new club, build up stock and then come out swinging. We've lost a lot of sales because of backorders this year!

In terms of the demand comments I made yesterday.... it's not so much that people are asking about the 735 but just new Titleist clubs in general. It's right about this time that customers start asking about closeouts and what is to come in the coming months. Maybe they know that Titleist actually keeps a club around for a while and that's why they aren't asking...

I think the manufacturers need to get together with these golf magazines that do their yearly rating of clubs and try to release the clubs somewhere after the release of the reviews or at least soon after giving readers a sneak peak at the new clubs. We get a lot of talk and buzz about the new clubs, but it takes them forever to finally release them and all of the hype is gone. Its the same situation with the Hogan drivers, Orlimar fw, Titleist drivers, bridgestone, and about every other smaller company that has a $900 price tag on their new set of irons that have a trade value of $100.

The backorders are rediculous. I ordered a set of RH Ping G2s silver dot, Graphite regular shafts. They are backordered on Regular graphite shafts for 2-3 weeks. HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE ANY??? The customer loved hearing that since he was going on a beach trip to play golf in 2 weeks. He just dropped $2,000 on ping poduct that day and now he wont be able to play with the irons.

Callaway could save a ton of money by shipping all of the order together. We got 4 boxes yesterday with one club in each all with a 4 page packing list for the order we placed in March that is backordered. I will never understand the golf industry.
