Should I make this trade?

Not sure if this is the right post, I apologize if not. I'm new to GolfWrx after lurking for a month or so...just took up the game last year and am full blown addicted...anyways

Someone proposed this trade to me, and not sure if I should take it my Nike VR-s 3 wood, in very good condition (id say 8.5-9/10) for a Scotty Cameron Detour Newport putter (about a 7/10 condition wise)

any thoughts? Im not currently using this 3 wood anymore as its just too hard for me to hit, i've recently bagged a Nike SQ Machspeed 3 wood that i love. I do not need the putter either (i'm currently "ho'ing" 2 pings, and an odyssey black tour designs) but think it would be easier to get rid of than the 3 wood....

sorry for being such a newbie, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it were just about ANY Scotty other than the Detour, I'd be inclined to tell you to do it.

Either way, if you aren't using the 3 wood, want the Scotty, and aren't worried about the putter's resale value... then go right ahead.

And :welcomeani:

EDIT: After glancing at the going rate for each, it appears that they are similar in value. Obviously, like everyone else has said, the Cameron is going to maintain that value longer, so unless you are just looking for a trade and sell type of deal, may as well go for it.

What makes the Detour so bad?

I was playing golf with one of the assistant pros at the club I used to work at. I was rocking the Detour at the time, and after the first hole he stopped me and said "I assumed that club was in your bag as a joke. I've never seen anyone actualyl use one fo those hideous things!"

I liked my detour, but went the way of the belly, and haven't looked back.

It'll hold around that value forever I'd guess, becuase it's a scotty. They Nike 3 wood will lose value once the new line comes out.

Is it just me or is the longer Detour LBlack posted curved for an arc stroke, or is it straight? It looks funky on my monitor. I've been using a Odyssey White Ice 2 Ball Blade for about a month and I do feel like it helps me with alignment. I wonder if a curved alignment aid would help your "feel" with grooming your stroke as well. I still average about 35 putts per round. Definitely have to work on nailing those longer putts instead of lagging them.

That's the design, to help you visualize the arc of your putting stroke.

Per a review on another website

"If you're a die-hard Pelz guy - a straight-back/straight-through type putter - then I can tell you now that the Detour is not for you. It does nothing to help you and will very likely mess you up. After all, the sight curve is curved!

But if you're a Cameron guy, with an arced path, or you're simply frustrated as heck with the "straight-back/straight-through" method, the Detour is built from the ground up to suit your stroke and visibly enforce the proper path."

^Thanks for the clarification! My eyes are going nuts! Does the short one have a curved aid too? That one looks pretty straight.

The Odyssey I have is the lined 2 Ball Blade. I prefer the lined version over the plain 2 ball one. I feel comfortable with a slight arc takeaway and a square follow thru so I like that the SC Detour has that arc aid. Not feelin' the orange paint fill but that could be fixed easily.

Are you still using it?

  • 4 weeks later...

Sorry to big up an old thread, but I wrote here before that I had a detour.

I've listed it on ebay, with a starting price of $129.99. I didn't really want to sell it but the fiance is making me sell anything I'm not using, so I set a starting price pretty high. Anyhow, it has a bid at $129.99, so if you could still make this trade, there are people willing to pay a decent amount for a detour.
