1iron and 2 iron

Anyone even own one anymore or is it sitting in the closet. With today's hybrids and woods, do you really need a low lofted iron to work the ball from that distance?

I still play them, but its all situational. I have a lot more confidence with my irons then I do my woods. I can hit my 1iron right down the middle every time. A hybrid can be a nice mix between the two.

 

My 1 iron serves a completely different purpose then a hybrid. Hybrids are meant to get the ball up with the help from the extra weight behind and below the ball. They're great from the fairway, but I have struggled with them in the wind. My 1 iron is a low bullet producing machine. Its not very effective at a wet course, but during the summer I can hit it just as far as most 3 woods. Into a stiff wind its not uncommon for me to hit it past my driver.

 

I've had this discussion with others and one insisted his hybrid didn't create too much spin to be ineffective in the wind. May be true for his swing, but no matter how you look at it, the hybrids will produce more spin then any 1/2 iron - therefore it is less effective.

 

When spin isn't a factor, there probably isn't a logical reason to carry an extra long iron.

I still play a 2 iron, I feel it gives me more options than a 5 Wood/Hybrid would.

I use a 2 iron. Some rounds, I couldn't hit a wood to save my life. I mainly use it on the tee or the first cut when the ball is sitting up a bit.

 

I swap it out with a Hogan CFT 2h.

since getting sponsored by Scratch, i had them make me a 2iron thats like a butter knife that i will rotate between the 19* rescue tp. i really like it off the tee because i can hit low stingers 240 down the middle everytime, if i could only stop it like Sergio on that 245 shot to 10ft id be alset!

Own and pack a 2 iron. I am a very high ball hitter with a lot of spin. The last thing that I need is a club that helps me get the ball in the air quicker!

I love my MP-33 2-iron. It stays in the bag unless I have a poor range session before I play a round of golf. Then, it gets swapped for a 980F 19* 5-wood. :lol:

I hate hybrids with a passion so my 2 iron isn't going anywhere. I just wish I had a 1 iron too. I love long irons.

I don't even play a 3 or 4 iron, let alone a 1 or 2 iron.

 

I bought a 2 iron, that stop almost ended a relationship to the girl I am now going to marrry. :lol:

 

That thing is TOUGH. A Maxfli VHL 2 iron with a stiff graphite shaft. The thing plays like a 2x4!! Fun to hit occationally, but really not good for my game. I got a good deal on it, and a REAL pissed off girlfriend at the time. :(

I have some sweet 2 irons sitting in the closet. A Tour satin z101 with Project X, a Srixon i201 and the classic 962....

I use my 2 iron ( Cobra Forged SS) just about every round. Tight and short par 4 are what is a dream at and it is quite easy to hit off the deck. I am a high ball hitter so I do not have problems with the low trajectory. I hate hybrids and I am not a huge fan of 5 woods either.

I am a junior golfer 16yrs old. I play 2-pw in titleist 690.mb's with rifle 6.0 shafts..........My 2 Iron is my go to club if i need to hit the fairway on a tight hole or i have a pressure packed shot in a tournament...I just take it out and lay 250yds down the pipe...maybe more if i rock it...........

I have been playing a 2-iron for so long that the hybrids seem strange to hit, I use them from time to time, but I agree, if I absolutely need one in the middle, I would rather trust myself with the 2 iron.

Exactly. I've always had a 2 iron and I can't imagine hitting a hybrid. I'm even partial to woods outside of my 3 wood.

My 2 iron never leaves the bag, I hit it alot better than a 5 wood, in fact the last 5 wood I owned I hit shorter than a 2 iron. That combined with me hating hybrids with a passion is the reason I will always play a 2 iron.
